Question:
My friends want to take me out for one last round of drinks..or two.

My surgery is in one week, May 14. My friends want to take meout tonight to celebrate, as I don't plan to drink at all after the surgery. The instructor in our pre-op class did not tell us not to drink pre-surgery, but I had figured none the week prior too...what do you guys think. I am a bundle of nerves and to prove it I posted this to the message board first before here! DUH!    — Sharon B. (posted on May 6, 2003)

Go ahead and enjoy your last drinks, glad I did. 9.5 months post-op I still really cannot tolerate alcohol.

I say go for it! If you are concerned about it affecting your surgery, then just give your surgeon's office a quick call and ask if it's okay for you to have a couple of drinks a few days before your surgery. Good luck!

Sharon, I say go for it and have fun. I'm not a doctor, but I highly doubt that could effect your surgery if its a week before. Alcohol comes out of your system within 24 hours (unless its like a ton of drinks). As you will be recovering for a while post-op, it's a good idea to celebrate now since you may not be up to going out much very soon after surgery. Goodluck to you and have fun!

My surgery is on Monday, May 12th. I went for pre-admission testing today and the brochure they gave me in the pre-admission department says that you should not have any nicotine or alcohol within 24 hours of your surgery. But it doesn't say anything about the week before. I say have fun!
