Question:
Will my calves ever be normal?
I am preop, surgery is July 1. I'm 5'2" and 265#. My weight is evenly distributed all over. I was wondering if anyone has lost a lot of inches in their calves. My calves are approximately 21" around and they absolutely disgust me. I will not wear shorts or dresses and wonder if I will be able to after surgery. — lindadougherty (posted on May 30, 2003)

calves, thighs, feet and ankles have all went down inches. It's been
wonderful! Mine were like tree trunks - now they are like limbs. Good

Not me - sorry. The reason I "know" they went down is my pants
used to fit tightly at the calf and now they swim in them.

Yes, they should go down alot. I could never even wear plus sized boots w/
the extra wide shaft pre-op, and now I can wear any boots I put on.

I started at 291 pounds and my calves were 19 inches. I am one year post op
and weigh 145 and my calves are 14 inches. The waist and calves have been
the slowest part to come down. I still have one little "ripple"
of fat that is sticking on my calves even though I walk on my treadmill
everyday. But they look so much better. Can't wait to buy boots this
winter! Good luck.

I am two weeks post op and instead of obessing with the amount of weight I
am losing, I have choosen to focus on the inches lost. Well yesterday I
took my first set of post-op measurements. I have already lost 1 inch from
both calves. Going from 20" to 19". So I would say that you
will lose inches from your calves. - Janine

My WLS was 1/13/03. I started out at 518 lbs and my calves then were 29.5
inches around. 4.5 months later, I am down 119 lbs and my calves are now
23.5 inches around. I can't wait to see what size they end up! Be
patient, it will happen for you too!!

I see you asked for thigh measurements too. My thighs started out at 27
inches and now they are 18. I am a little taller than you. I am 5'4",
but my starting weight was higher(291), so that should put us about the
same. Good luck.

Oh my goodness, are we ever the same! I can't remember the last time I
wore shorts. I hate/hated my legs. My knees especially. My knees had
dimples...and the dimples had dimples. If I looked really close, the
dimples dimples had dimples. Anyway, It has only been 9 weeks, but I can
already tell a difference...not a big difference, but some. Thanks for the
question, because I'm going to be checking out all the answers.

On the day of my surgery (10/15/02), my calves measured at 21". Now, 7
1/2 months post op, I have lost 105 pounds and my calves measure 17".
I started out 316 and 5'2.5".
