Question:
When will all this new energy kick in??
I'm 4 weeks post op. Down 27lbs. I'm very happy with my weightloss progress, how ever, I don't feel my energy level getting any better. I told the Dr. and He upped my b12, and said I should be feeling better soon. I go back to work on Monday (6/16). I'm hoping that will take my mind off being bored, and maybe energy will kick in then. Thanks. — KellyJeanB (posted on June 11, 2003)

It took me a while to fully recover from my surgery. I tired easily for the
first couple of months but now I feel great. Just give your body a chance
to get it's legs under it again and you will feel better. It is different
for everyon but you'll notice a difference soon.

Please do not get discouraged! It's been my experience, as well as seeing
this in others, that your energy levels greatly improve between the 6th and
8th week....and, then it keeps on getting better and better! You've been
through major surgery, a major life change, living on few calories, and
dropping weight at a pretty incredible rate.... Go easy and be patient...
it is so worth it! Best of luck to you.. you are doing great!

Hi, I'm 3 months post-op. I didn't think I would ever get my energy back.
I'm just now starting to feel good. There is light at the end of the
tunnel. I have more good days than bad days. It will come in time. Good
luck!!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Remember that you just had major
surgery - it takes your body a while to recuperate. I went back to work at
two weeks post-op and did ok - I did come home every evening and take a
nap. I think it was about 5 or 6 weeks out when I suddenly didn't need the
naps anymore and after that, the energy levels stared to increase a lot.
Give yourself some time - you've had surgery, you aren't getting many
calories and your body is going through a lot of changes. It doesn't
happen overnight.

At our last support group meeting the Doctor stated if you had open rny
that for every ten years old you are it takes one month to get back to the
norm, i.e., 40 = 4 months, 45 = 5 months, 55 = 6 months, etc. Shari

Three months-- and the energy level is a constant that only improves.

Oh how I wondered the very same thing. I am now 8 wks post (-39 and my
energy has returned. I notice an immediate difference if I haven't gotten
enough protein, water or food. It is amazing how post-ops can get such a
quick reaction to nutrition or lack thereof. If I had realized all of this
pre-op who knows if I would've needed this surgery. One more way of being
shown that there is so much more to think about and feel other than food!
Best wishes!!
