Question:
Anyone out there 5'6

I am 5'6" and weight 180 now. I believe a have a distorted body image. Is there anyone out there who is in my neighborhood of height and weight who are willing to share their pics with me? I promise I am not a stalker or pervert, I just want to see myself as others see me. Thanks in advance for your response.    — PJ M. (posted on July 10, 2003)

Check out my profile. I'm 5'6" and 170 in my current picture which is pre Plastic Surgery. I'm now 160 and a size 8! I didn't get rid of my distorted body image until after my plastics. Its amazing what PS will do for the self esteem!

I'm 5' 5.5". There's a picture on my profile of me at 177 pounds (6 months post-op). It really does take time for your body image to catch up the changes! I've always found that mine lags 6-12 months behind, whether I'm going up or down the scale.

I'm not your height or weight (a bit taller) but one thing that was helpful to me to get a sense of my "real" size was to go to the mall with a close (unthreatened) friend. We sat on a bench and she told me which women walking by were the same size as me. We sat there for about an hour. I couldn't believe what she was telling me but at least I knew that she was telling the truth in relation to what she observed. She had no reason to mislead me and I finally believed that I was actually that small/normal-looking. It helped!

I am 5'6 1/2" and weigh 173. I will ask hubby to ake a few pics if you e-mail me and are interested. Nothing like a shopping trip in a regular size department to perk you up. When you walk through the sections having to actually make decisions based on price of color rather than whether it will get on your body, there is no better feeling in the world. I am loving the macy's $9.99 and 65% off racks. I'm still in XL and L tops and 12-14 bottoms. Good luck!

I am 5'5.5 and in my after picture I was around 165, but now am 144 and not losing anymore, yet! I am still thick looking, but im wearing from size 5-7 pants and s/m tops...I will never understand lol. My girlfriends that look smaller then me and weigh the same or less wear 7-10 pants. Oh well I'm happy:o) Good luck!

I certainly understand distorted body image feeling. I am 5'6, and am weighting 127, and I am obsessed with my fat ankles. I feel like all my lost weight dropped down to my ankles. I drive my husband nuts at times.... that being said, I continue one year post op with my support group meetings, and also with my individual counseling sessions. 40 years of obesity does something to the mind and body image, and it doesnt go away over night(not even after a year for me). If your just curious about your own progress sharing pics can help. However if you are like me and obsessive about body image, consider seeking some professional guidance. I want my journey to lead me to physical and mental health :) Good luck in your journey,
