Question:
I have been holding steady at 139lbs for almost two months!

I have lost and regained the same stupid 3 lbs over the last two months. I don't know what is wrong. I also eat alot of carbs. I mean alot. My diet consist of a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast (eat only half), lunch 1 peice of pizza or 1/2 of a sandwich and for dinner I eat maybe 4 or 5 tiny bites of meat, veggies and a starch. I started at 282 the day of surgery and I now weigh 139lbs. My DR says that I am right on schedule, he even showed some concern for how much weight I had lost and so fast. I still have 6 more months to lose. He declined my request for plastic surgery said that I did not need it and he said that I do not need to lose any more weight, but I have a personal goal of 125/130lbs and a size 6. I know what I want for myself and that is still very healthy. Can someone give me some advice on how I can get these last 14lbs off for good. I also have to be honest, I dont get much physical exercise other than at work and sometimes that is an awful lot. Any advice would be grealty appreciated.    — Amanda F. (posted on July 23, 2003)

Amanda, Believe me, I am often in the same boat with you, so I am preaching to the choir here...I think you know what it is you need to do--cut the carbs! Get on the protein train that they are talking about daily on the message board. If we get back to basics, the weight will come off. It sounds like you are eating way more carbs than protein, and that is not a healthy diet for a gastric bypass patient. Eat more protein, exercise more and drink more water. I'm sure you'll get to your goal if you continue with the program! I have been guilty of eating more carbs than I should, so I have kicked myself in the pants today as well! Good luck!

Ok friends - get ready to flame me here!!!! Have you considered that maybe your body is comfortable where it is? I'm not saying that to be ugly or a smart alec. The truth is - very few normal adult women wear a size 6. That's generally reserved for teenagers and fashion models. If your physician/surgeon feels that you don't need to lose any more weight I'd have to at least consider or respect the fact that he's an expert in his field. Your weight loss is phenomenal and I know your friends and family must be so proud of you. Consider this - when WLS patients who are at or near goal start losing and gaining the same few pounds that often means your body is telling you "I like it right where I am!!!!". I'm not saying you should give up on losing more but I'm saying if it becomes so difficult to lose that it drives you crazy then it's not worth it. Congratulations on your awesome achievment and I hope I didn't offend you. Best wishes!

Amanda, I'm confused. The last posting on your profile was a week ago and it says that you are wearing mostly size 4's! I think that is pretty darn small. I stand 5'8" and weigh 315 pounds, so I have more to lose than you did. My personal goal is to be 145/150 pounds, and even with that, I don't think I'll ever be in a size six. You are doing GREAT and I know that it is frustrating to hold steady on the scale, but your body is adjusting to all of the changes right now. Start making sure that you're getting ENOUGH calories and start walking. You are doing fine! And, get those new pics up - we want to see how great you look! Hugs ~
