Question:
I'm 19 post op and Hungry about all the time, anyone else experienced this?

I hate to sound so desperate but lately I'm soooo hungry, sometimes so hungry I feel like if I could hold it I could eat and eat. I try to eat what I should and I don't over eat. I hate to sound weird but sometimes I feel so hungry that I just chew and chew something I want and spit it out, so I want overfill my pouch. Sorry if this is gross. I think I just need the taste of the food. Well I am at goal but wanted to lose a few more pounds so I could stay within a 5 pounds range. I am eating 3 times a day 3 ozs at a time with a snack a couple times a day. I know this is not much but I wanted to lose a few more lbs. I weighed 347 19 months ago and now weigh 128 lbs and I'm 5'4 . Anyone have any advice cause I'm sooooooo hungry all the time!!! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.......    — tatterpuddin (posted on August 9, 2003)

You have had an incredible loss - congrats! I know you are trying to lose some more but I'm guessing you are putting your body into starvation mode. 3 oz won't give you enough of everything for where you are. The only suggestion I have is to eat that whole 3 oz as protein and nothing else. It will fill you better, likely stick with you longer and will also kick your body back into ketosis and you will likely lose the extra weight, but at 19 months PO I hesitate to advise this. I would be talking to the surgeon. I have been told that at maintenance that I will be eating 1 to 1-1/2 cups of a food a meal for 3 meals. Maybe cut back to 3 larger meals and cut out the snacks. Maybe with the increased food you will be satisfied better and longer. I am 6 mos PO and am eating 3-6 oz for 3 meals a day and am losing faster than I can believe. I think you have cut back too far. JMO I hope you figure out something because you should not have to be hungry all the time. Please talk to your surgeon. One last thought, are you transected? If not, then maybe you have a staple line rupture.

I am just a couple of months further out than you and hungry all the time too. Protein does tend to fill me for a longer period of time, but I am still hungry at shorter intervals throughout the day compared to when I was MO. Before surgery, I would eat only 2 meals a day, granted they were HUGE portions, but I felt satisfied. Now, at 21 months post-op, I am hungry much more often and it is a constant battle. I only want to lose 5 more lbs., but geez, it just isn't happening. My window is closed and it is taking a lot of work! I feel like I am back to the old days of finding a diet that works for me. I actually had gained a few lbs. recently and started doing protein drinks for 2 of my meals, and that has put me back on track. It seemed to have shrunk my pouch significantly, and now I get fuller faster. I wish I could offer some better advice, just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Yahoo has a great OSSG-graduate board for those of us that are 1 year out or more. Great discussions about what we deal with further out. I will try to return here with the link.

groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG Must be at least one year post-op to post, but others may lurk for info.
