Question:
Has anyone's hair texture felt different after surgery?

No matter how much I condition it feels hard.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 14, 2003)

Oh yeah... it does that! Make sure you are getting enough protein and that your multi-vitamin has vitamin K in it (that's the good vitamin for hair and nails). The higher your diet is in protein, the better your hair will feel. Natachew is an excellent chewable prenatal vitamin that is good for us posties! You might try it! It made a heck of a difference with my hair! :~) Good Luck!

Starting after about 3 months and continuing off and on since then, I go through these stages where my hair is poofier (and a little more brittle) than usual. I maintain pretty high protein intake (averaging over 60 grams a day) and get more than enough vitamins so I'm at a loss as to what is causing it. However, I haven't had any hair loss of merit so I shouldn't complain.

Try not washing your hair every time you shower. My hairdresser suggested that instead of shampoo I use a little conditioner and run it through my wet hair and rinse it clean. I was shocked (I thought it would be yucky) to find that it was perfectly clean, (I use a ton of styling stuff) has more body and is much less dry and brittle looking. I have also cut my hair short nad dyed it much darker. It has really helped make it look thicker. I have steadily lost my hair for about 5 months now. I think I am finally seeing a bit of regrowth but I think that is because I lose very slowly now that I am just a few pounds from my goal.

My hair feels the same but recently, had it hilighted and it went wacko. Been going to the same guy for 14 yrs. he knows my hair...which colors to use, how long to leave it, etc. Some of the foils turned almost platinum blonde and others leaked chemicals they never did, leaving "amonium circles" (i think that is what he called them)...anyways, red (as a crayon!) arcs on my scalp. It was late at night and I had to go back the next night to fix. Of course he did it for free but we both knew it was the anesthesia still in my body after 5 weeks. Next time, he's going to watch it closely...hope the anesthesia leaves soon. I'm tired of being tired and that hair thing was just wacko.

Well mine is even curlier since WLS. There is no taming it so I just shave it off. I wish I could find a wig as there is no way I can live with the curles. I don't know why wls made it curlier, but it sure did. ;) Is that a change in texture? :)
