Question:
Is it possible to dump off of Pain Meds?

I am now 9 days out. I am feeling fine and tolerating everything so far. I am about 75% back to normal with the exception of soreness in the abdominal area from time to time. In the last few days, however I have noticed a kind of nausious feeling after taking pain meds. I tollerarted the pain meds just fin up until a few days ago when I noticed to get very woozy, my heart strts beating quicky, I get sweatty, and I just feel horrible about 5 min after taking the medication. The doctor gave me the liquid form of Roxicet, a narcotic. Does anyone have any info? Thanks    — Teekay80 (posted on September 21, 2003)

Hi! I wonder if the liquid is sugar/syrup based? Might ask your pharmacist. I took liquid hydrocodone (loratab) right after surgery without any problems. Would certainly be worth a call to your pharmacist and/or surgeon. No need for you to be doubly uncomfortable....pain from surgery, nausea from meds. It's important you are comfortable so you can heal comfortably and quickly ~ Congrats on your surgery!! Open RNY 1/3/03 330/205/175

It sounds to me like these are all side effects that anyone can have from narcotics. I'm not the one experiencing your pain but it sounds to me that "soreness" may not require a narcotic for adequate relief. I have found generic chewable tylenol for kids has artificial sweetner - ask somewhere like walmart - and it worked just fine for me. Was glad to get rid of that nausea feeling. Good luck!
