Question:
Post-op and starting on Reglan, anyone else on it?

I'm 11 weeks post-op and have been having problems with nausea and vomitting a couple times per week. I haven't been eating too much and do try to make sure I chew really well. The upper GI was normal but they did find I still have reflux so I'm starting on Nexium as well as Reglan to help my stomach empty. Is anyone else on this and how did it affect you? I'm worried if it empties my stomach too soon it will make me want to eat too often. I've lost 44 lbs to date and obviously want to continue. My last episode was Saturday with Salmon and 2 hours after eating dinner it came back. Any thoughts? Your comments are appreciated.    — Shelly R. (posted on September 26, 2003)

Hi! I had the same problem at about 3 months post op. I was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks straight because I could not keep anything down. They had me on reglan in the hospital but it didn't help at all. They realized that that my pouch was filling up with mucus which was why I couldn't keep anything down. I then started taking children's liquid dimatapp and have been fine ever since. Maybe ask your surgeon about that. Email me if you have any questions. Good luck - Tracy - open rny 1/10/02

I started on Reglan about a month ago. I am six months post-op. I had to start on Reglan due to uncontrollable burping and nausea. It doens't affect your appetite but it DOES make u very Sleepy. I won't take it during the day because of that reason. I also didn't feel burning from juice or acidic drinks. But since I have started on it, I feel burning. Ohhh... if u have constipation, it does make u a little more regular.

Hi! I took Reglan for a month, trying it to prevent strictures. I've had 4 strictures in 8 weeks. It didn't help prevent strictures, but, it made me so sleepy, I couldn't function during the day. I could only take it at night. I am on Nexium now, and feeling good. Good luck. Kathy...Open RNY...June 23, 2003.....295/231/170
