Question:
I was wondering how bad tasting the liquid potassium is.

I had been taking the pills and the last couple times they have felt like they got stuck so I talked to the nurse and she told me that they would have me take liquid potassium. I do not know if it is bad tasting but it can't be that good. What did you mix it in or is it not bad or what. Pills just feel like they are stuck in my throat so I will discuss that next week when I go in but for now any help would be great. 6/27/03 292/228/???    — horserider0146 (posted on October 1, 2003)

YUK! I would rather take the pill, crush it, then put it in low sugar applesauce. But if you need the potassium - take it regardless of what we say. I have chronic potoassium issues and need to take my potassium or I get very sick (my heart gives me trouble). I prefer to drink a glass of low sodium V-8 every day (full of potassium) and several times week I add a crushed pill to a TBLSPN of applesauce. My potassium has not been a problem in the last 90 days. 4/2/03 283/205/175

Hi, I have had potassium problems since the WLS but I just crush my pill every morning and down it with some orange juice. Make sure you take you potassium because if it gets too low you will get very sick!!

How bad tasting? Really really bad. As a nurse, I gave it to many patients, and just smelling it is awful. It smells like a mixed drink gone bad. You generally mix it with orange juice. I have potassium problems myself. I would rather take the horse pills...I break them in half, which helps. However you decide to do it, please take your potassium. Low potassium can not only cause horrendous muscle cramping, it can actually cause your heart to stop. Good luck!

Hi, I take a prescription potassium solution everyday. It is called Klor-Con 20meq (powder for oral solution). It is made by Upsher-smith. They are little powder packets I dissolve in 16 ounces of water. Its kind of a fruitie orange flavor. Yes it has a little saltiness to it. But I have been drinking it everyday for about 2 years now. I do not think it is bad at all. I think Tang tastes worse. It only has to be dissolved in 4oz of water. But I have found the flavor better with more water. And there is less chance for stomach upset. I tried the capsules, tablets , premixed liquid. This is much much better. Hope this helps.

It is the most vile, god aweful slop (sh##) I ever had. After trying many things, I'm on the K-COR (?) tabs. Email me for the correct name and dosage if you are interested.

If bad-tasting stuff were Japanese movie monsters, Potassium would be up there with Gidrah or Godzilla. It's the one thing I've found that makes Gastrograffin taste like vintage Bordeaux! But it's survivable, and if you need it, you can handle it. Not having enough potassium is worse than the taste of that stuff. Best wishes, and good luck!

Take a teaspoon of SF jello - any flavor mix w/3 oz hot water, your liquid potassioum, a couple icecubes, drink away. Not to bad at all. Good Luck!
