Question:
Egg drop soup

I'm eight weeks post op, have the go ahead to basically eat anything I want, still tryin to make good protein choices. My question is I'm running out of things to eat, gettin sick of the same ole crap. Is egg drop soup a good thing to eat, and does it have protein. I'm talkin bout the kind you buy at a chinese restaurant. Please respond.    — noweapon (posted on November 17, 2003)

Egg drop soup was one of the things on my protien list for early on. I don't know how much protien it has but it is a good choice. Watch the sodium in what you get at Chinese resteraunts though... it's pretty high.

Per the Fitday site, 1 cup of egg drop soup has 73 calories, 4 grams fat, 1 gram carbs, 8 grams protien, and, yes, the sodium is pretty high--729 mgs or 30% of your daily intake.

Hi Lisa, I LIVED on Egg Flower Soup (aka egg drop soup) early post-op! That and Won Ton Soup - and potstickers! Gosh - is there anything better than Chinese food? Of course, I'm not sure how fats affect you - some RNY post-ops do have dumping from the higher fat foods; since I'm a DS post-op it's a totally good thing, so I'm not 100% sure - maybe drop a line to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends. Hey - have you found the Healthy Choice deli meats? They're really good - I'd take them, wrap a slice around a mozzarella cheese stick, or a pickle or something - and munch. Totally yummy. Blessings, dina

Well I ate it for lunch the egg drop soup and it was sooo very good, and it stayed down well. I dont eat won ton though. I love pickles too...didn't know I could have those. Now that I know I'll make sure I'll have one. How about slim jims are they ok also. I can't stomach those mozzella cheese sticks. Now if they were the ones you get at an restaurant I could eat them but now cold. And I know those are out the question because they are fried. But I love them!

Lisa, perhaps if you gave us an idea of what you are eating protein wise, we could make some suggestions. I think that there are a ton of different protein foods out there and wonder how you can get bored? Eggs can be made a gazillion ways, there is seafood-shell fish, tuna, salmon and white fishes,poultry-chicken and turkey, beef-ground and steaks, pork-bacon,ribs and ham, dairy products, soy products all have protein. The limitation is your imagination..
