Question:
Does anyone know if UHC PPO will cover Tummy Tucks?
I'm interested in a tummy tuck but will like to know if anyone has been approved thru United Health Care PPO. — Kim *. (posted on December 2, 2003)

I have UHC PPO, and am pre-op but a friend of mine from work has a daughter
who works for uhc. After I was approved for surgery, my friend told me
that her daughter told her that they had approved a tt after wls due to
medical necessity (yeast infections, etc).

I should've added this in my question...I don't have alot of sag. I think
that it will be more for cosmetic. I haven't had like a yeast infection or
anything. I just don't like the way my stomach looks in a pair of jeans.
:0) I will be switching insurance to Blur Cross Blue Shield next year.
Should I wait and let UHC pay for my breast reduction. Now I do have
problems with those. Hope someone can still help. Thanks for the answers.

They fought me for a year though I had 2" of supporting records
showing it was reconstructive vs. cosmetic. It finally ended when human
resources showed me the exclusion
against any skin removal. Unfortunately they also tied my
hands by having an exclusion to anything that would be related back to the
unapproved procedure. My co. is self insured and can make any rules they
want.....

Every policy is different. Since you know you will be changing insurance
carriers, I would submit for approval with UHC and if they decide not to
cover it, apply thru BX for the same thing. UHC will cover tummy
tucks....but it all depends on YOUR individual policy.

Hi, ihave UHC PPO, it covered 100% of WLS and will cover tummy tuck only if
a result from surgery. I suggest you check your Insurance handbook and
possibly on the back of the card call and see what they say, BUT ask for
Care Coordinaters, they will know more specifics on your coverage.
