Question:
if ins. covers a br. lift, how much extra is the augmentation? silicon vs. saline

I live in St. Louis and was wondering if anyone else has ins pay for the luft then paid out of pocket for the augmentaion. If so what kind of implants did you get and how much extra did it cost> Thanks    — cherokey55 (posted on April 21, 2004)

Hi Terri, I had my Breast lift & Augmentation on April 1st, 2004. I paid out of pocket for both procedures, which came to 6000 dollars. However, the break down between the 2 procedures was, 2K for the breast lift, and 4K for the augmentation. Everything was included in this cost, except for the pain meds, which my insurance paid for. My insurance would have probably paid for the lift, but I chose a surgeon that was not in my network, and did not take my particular insurance. I would have rather paid the 2K out of pocket for the lift, instead of settle with a doctor I was not comfortable with. I also had saline implants placed under the muscle, Mentor Smooth round Saline, 425 CC's overfilled to 525 CC's. My doctor does not use the saline implants, and from what I understand they are only approved right now through the FDA for implant studies, and have not yet been approved for usage again. That is what my Missouri Augmentation Booklet states, as of 2000. If this has changed I am not aware. Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. Good Luck to you & God Bless! My lift was covered due to severe ptosis. I paid $800 for the implants. Mine are Mentor saline, smooth, round, under the muscle, only 225 cc'c. I had a *bit* of breast tissue left after the weight loss and the small implants brought me to a 34 DD. Perfect size for me (5'8" and 124 pounds.) Good luck! hugs, Ann..... RNY 9/10/99..... 260/124

When doing my research before having my breast augmentation after weight loss, I found that the implants themselves are made out of silicone, but they are filled with saline. The old ones that people had so much trouble with was filled with silicone. From my understanding, the only way you can get them filled with silicone these days is if your surgeon feels that there is a medical reason why you need the silicone. For the life of me I can remember what the reason was, but I did remember reading it somewhere.
