Question:
Those of you who have had an armlift, what was the aftercare like?

Would you recommend any special creams or cleansers to use on scar? Upcoming tummy tuck and arm lift..any advice would be appreciated :)    — Michelle H. (posted on May 10, 2004)

I had my TT, arms and breasts done 3/31/03. I used Mederma after my 3 month checkup on my scars. Dr wouldn't approve anything until that time. My only advice is to follow orders and don't overdue anything. When they mean 'don't lift anything over so many lbs', they mean it! Good luck with your surgery. You will LOVE the results!

Don't use anything until the doctor says it is OK. I had a little mederma left over from my RNY. When that was gone I used coco butter for several months. The scar on my right arm is wider than the one on the left so I assume that being right handed and using that arm more to lift etc does have an effect.

If you mean special creams or cleansers to clean the scar, I would advise against it unless your doctor suggests you use something like an antibacterial ointment. Some cleaners such as hydrogen peroxide kills new skin cell growth and could delay healing. If you are referring to a scar cream, my doctor let me use one at about two weeks once the incision was closed. At first I tried silicone scar sheets, but they were difficult to keep on and after three weeks the scar looked worse. Now I use mederma. I got very good results with mederma after my breast lift. I use that along with scargo. Supposedly its not the cream, but the massage that does it. Now if only I can remember to use it and massage four times daily like I did with my breast scars!
