Question:
Does prescription Tussionex make you dump?
I have developed a cough that troubles me mainly at night. I have some leftover Tussionex cough syrup I'd like to try but I am afraid it will make me sick. It is pretty sweet. I talked to the pharmacist and she looked on the ingredient list and said it did not give the amount of sugars per dosage. I have not really had much problem with dumping. For example while in the hospital after WLS they accidently put regular pudding instead of sugar free on my tray. I did not know this at first and ate it with no ill effects. I don't think you will dump on the syrup. But if you do it will only last
20 minutes or so but the relief will be for 4 hours. So you decide. Try
it.

If it was Rx your doctor should have written it for sf sugar free for
diabetics, that way the sugar wouldnt have botherd you, or try a half dose
and see if that bothers you and then work your way up to a full dose as
perscribed. A good rule of thumb is live like a diabetic, no surgars,
sweets or fats...good luck I hope you feel better.

I've been told that I will need to stay away from anything that has sugar
or anything like sugar in the first three ingredients. If it does, stay
away. Sounded simple to me, and I'm been very surprised at some of the
things I thought would be ok, and are not... Just my two cents.. Good

If it were me I would look for the children's chewable with the same
ingredients or ask the pharmacy what would be a good substitute without
sugar. I learned the hard way with the RX I was given when I went home. I
ended up just taking children's chewable tylenol and that was much better
for my pouch.

Hey Erin,
Unfortunately, yes this is made with sugar. As is the liquid Vicodin,
which is what your cough medicine is made with too. Except that your Rx
for the cough med has guiafenesin, the stuff to help quit that cough. You
may try half the dose and see if that works, and doesn't make you dump.
