Question:
I want to know what to do for more protein and how to avoid these plateaus.

I have been on a stand still every three weeks. I recently can't get past the 210 mark, which is very frustrating. Please someone help me and give me some ideas it's almost 3 months and I can not lose anymore.    — tamikacherry (posted on January 29, 2005)

I am not as far post of as you, but I found myself completely sick of protein drinks. I do like the protein hot chocolate? Have you tried that? I just don't have the money to keep buying it all the time. I try to eat foods that are really high in protein that way, I don't have to worry so much about the protein. Shrimp is high in protein....so is roast beef.

I have found that roasted unsalted soy nuts have 22 grams of protein and only 6 grams of fat. Try also adding a serving of wheat germ at 4 grams of protein to yogart. I also just discovered that I had a craving for chicken cutlets, so I used the wheat germ to coat the chicken and put it in the toaster oven. It was just as good as regular fried cutlets with double the protein. Good luck and keep up the good work. Do not become discouraged about the plateaus. I was on one for 4 months but kept to the program.

Hi, hitting a plateau every few weeks is normal, it's your body's way of "settling". I did the same thing and thought the same thing - More Protein! Well I found some great shakes (35g protein/can), bars(22g) and other supplements that are just wonderful. I have been stuck at 207 since the beginning of November and just started incorporating these into my diet 2 and a half weeks ago in place of breakfast, lunch or both. Yesterday I hit 193.5. Email me and I will let you know where to find these product and get more info on them. [email protected] - Nicole

Boy oh boy can I realt to the stuck scale. I would be the same for even weeks and then on the scale and drop 10 pounds. My husband was really frustrated with my 'complaining out it', so he (being and engineer) made me a spread sheet which should starting weight and daily weigh ins. To my suprize and delight I was even with the stuck scale still losing an average of 3 pounds a week. It helped greatly that I could see the big picture and not the detail. The ther things are make sure you are drinking your water, and moving as much as possible. Also try putting on a small size clother than you are wearing to see if your body is just shifting. Good luck and try not to worry.

I know how frustrating it is. I learned a little trick that helps me, at yahoo.com you can create your own start page. There is a diet tracker you can add to it. It helps me keep things in perspective. For example, today I did a weigh in and the chart shows that I am at 79% of my mini goal that I set... more than 3 months left to reach it! It also showed me that I have lost 5 lbs since my last weigh in on it, which was a suprise because it seemed as though I wasn't losing any at all! Really, you should check it out, it helps to have that little reminder and chart right there! As far as protein goes, I have been using GNC pro performance liquid protein. Every 3 tbsp has 18g. So, throughout the day I take a spoonfull here and there. It doesn't taste the best, but a spoon full goes down quick and then it is over! Each spoon full is 6g, every one adds up! Good luck! Amber

When I hit a weight slow down or a plateau I do a food reality check. I check to see what I have let slip into my diet and make appropriate revisions. I also do a portion check. Am I starting to eat a little to much of this food or that. I find even if I start to eat soda crackers and I try not to... I may want to eat just one.. but I can fit 5 in... that is a lot of cals and carbs. Also... protein drinks do have additional calories and fat and carbs... pick a protein drink (I drink Syntrax's Nectar available online at a couple of places too.. in canada as well... and money order as well... email me.) that is low in carbs, fats, and high in Protein.. but keep in mind...your body only uses a max of 30 grams of protein at one time... so eat up accordingly. Also the USDA food tables have a great online search database that gives all the info on a particular food... you can check all the nutrients on it. I will be posting a particular comment/question in regards to this. or email me. You will find protein available in many foods you can choose to eat instead of others, it take reasearch. But plateuas are natural. Up your exercise and mix up how you do your exercise routine, your body gets use to what it is doing so change it around from time to time to give it a kick start.
