Question:
Does following LAP RNY procedure sound like stomach is transected?

The surgeon sections off a small (1 ounce) section of your stomach and then after "disconnecting" the intestines from the larger stomach, reattaches it to this new smaller pouch. The intake into your stomach remains the same but the outflow into the intestines has been reduced to about 1/2 inch wide so that food passes through at a slower rate as to allow for better absorbtion of nutrients. The whole "rearrangement" is secured with staples, the most staples being used to section off the smaller stomach pouch from the remaining stomach. It basically, with scar tissue, cuts the new stomach apart from the old. The open procedure doesn't do this because they have more room to move around inside you and just make a smaller staple line that basically leaves the stomach whole but separated into two sections.    — Leah B.
