Question:
Why get the lower stomach resected? Why not?

I'd be interested in hearing from people who have chosen to have their RNY resected; that is, having the stomach cut into two separate pieces, and having the lower stomach removed from the body. I understand one camp believes that in removing the un-used stomach there is no chance for later ulcers, cancer, or any other problems. The other camp believes that the lower, unused stomach should be left in the body in case it needs to be used in the future (if the pouch can no longer be used). Any advice you can give me would help me in making this decision. Thanks!!    — Kristy J. (posted on November 26, 2000)

Thanks; I mean resected (the lower stomach is cut and removed from the body). In transected, the lower stomach is removed, but left in the body.
