Question:
Has anyone had their lower, unused stomach removed?

Has anyone had their lower stomach removed after an RNY? I'd just as soon have them take this out, if I can get my open RNY transected. Why leave it in? Any one had this done?    — Kristy J. (posted on November 29, 2000)

I had surgery on June 19th. It was Open RNY with 85% of my stomach removed. I have had no complications and I'm feeling wonderful about myself and my life. I am almost 6 months out and now have BMI within the ideal limits. I would recommend it to anyone with no worries.

My doctor told me that you need the lower stomach as it continues to product digestive juices. Also, I have met another person recently that had to have her surgery reversed. She was literally dying after the procedure and it was done in order to save her life. I feel safer knowing that if anything should ever happen to require reversal, at least I have the rest of my stomach available.
