Question:
I had really bad results w/ Demerol when I had my daughter.

It made me vomit uncontrollably. Ever since then, I have listed Demerol as a allergic reaction. What other options for pain relief will I be given. I am just in the deciding stages at this point and I want to get all my ducks in a row. I have been doing research on this site for a couple of months and it is a true lifesaver. I have learned so much that I think I could perform the surgeries at this point. :)    — Keri N. (posted on March 31, 2001)

I too, am allergic to Demerol. At BTC they use the Morphine Pump for pain. It is the only pain narcotic that I can take. I have heard that they also will use Vicodin even on top of the Morphine if you are experiencing more pain. Personally, I have a high pain tolerence and had them disconnect the pump the second day because I wasn't using it and got tired of draggin it around on my frequent walks in the hall. Rest assure that they will do everything to control your pain so that you will get up and walk and do your breathing.

I used a combination of morphine and toradol. Worked wonders. Best wishes.

I am also highly sensitive to Demerol--what we have isn't a true allergy but I say I'm allergic just to avoid arguments. Morphine is the gold standard of pain relief and you won't have any problem with it. It will do the job!

Hellow everyone, The ONLY sure way to know how you will react to strong painkillers is to have your doctor give you small doseages in a controled enviroment, or go to the saftey of your home first and try it there. Then the next day call your doctor with the results. i am going to have the GRDS in delano, BUT not before i test the meds first. insist on it, cause you dont want to wake up in a world of hurt. hopes this helps and i need all your prayers for me before my opt.
