Question:
I have not lost any weight in the past 6 weeks I am only 10 weeks post op!

I had RNY-LAP surgery on May 8, 2001. My starting weight was between 240-235lbs, and I am 5'2". Well the first 4 weeks went great. I dropped down to 203lbs. Today 7/2/01 I still weigh 203! My average day goes as follows: Breakfast: protein shake or 1 egg and a slice off bacon and 1/2 slice of toast. Lunch: Organic soups (the ones you add water to) Split pea, couscous and lentils, black beans. or 1-2 ozs Chicken and 1/8 cup veggies and 2 to 3 bites of white rice or a frozen meal about 2/3rds Dinner: 1-2 ozs Chicken and 1/8 cup veggies and 2 to 3 bites of white rice or noodles or 1/3 cup Black bean and turkey chili or a frozen meal about 2/3rds. Snack: 1/4 - 1/3 protein bar, protein shake, Glenny's soy chips or 1 oz sunflower seeds. I drink at least 48oz of water/crystle-lite daily (I am working up to more). I try to walk 3 times a week, for 20-30 minutes. Although my engery level is very low, and the next day I am usually tired from the previous days walk. At this rate, I may never get out of the Morbidly Obese catagory! I am greatful for the 35+ lbs that I did lose, but I am wondering why I have not lost any weight in the past 6 weeks, this early after the surgery!    — Dot D. (posted on July 20, 2001)

Hi, I know exactly how frustrated you feel because I'm in the same situation..lost 30 lbs right after and never lost another pound and I'm 7 weeks pos op.I asked my doctor and he said that the boby goes into shock cause 30 lsb in 2 weeks is a lot and it needs to figure out what's going on,even though the scale doesn't move you might notice a change in how your clothes fit.Keep up the good work and we'll see the scale going down one day (as long as it doesn't go up!!)

Don't have a answer because I am in the same boat. Had surgery on June 4 and have lost 30 lbs. I have been on a plataeu for 3.5 weeks. It is getting very upsetting. I wish I had a answer for you but it is comforting to know i'm not the only one this is happening to.

Listens guys don't be so hard on yourselves I tought the same way you guys did just two weeks ago I went to the doctor on 6/18/01 at 5wks post-op and had lost 51lbs. well guess what went back at 8wks. and guess what still at a lost of 51 lbs. well I was devastated about this and I just knew that I had failed at yet another attempt to loose weight. but guess what I went back and weighed at 9wks and BAM!!! had lost 11 lbs. in one week so that puts my loss at 62lbs. in 9wks. So you see you may not loose any weight in 2 or 3 wks. but it might come off in one big chunk like mine did. But the important thing is that were loosing so just be greatful and pat yourselves on the back for a job well done thusfar and just for having the courage to make this decision to take our lives back give yourselves an extra pat on the back. You're right where you're suppose to be as you see your weight starting out was nowhere near some of the people you see that loose real quick. I myself started at 502lbs. Would you like to trade places??

I too am 5'2" and started out at 240#. I have had many a plateau. At about 8 weeks I stopped loosing weight and began to worry. By 10 weeks I took the bull by the horn, cut my carbs way back, increased my protien, no seeds or nuts of any kind. I kept up with my vitamins. I inreased my walk from 35 min. a day to two 30 minute walks, and gradually worked up to two 40 minute walks. By week 12 I was on my way again. I still have plateau's and when it comes time for my monthly I will even gain 2 or 3 pounds. but now find myself at a loss (no matter how small) just about every week. I have now taken up roller blading, which is really a bun tightner. ha ha. I am 9 mos post op and down 92 pounds. Good luck to you and keep your chin up. It will start to come off again.

A friend of mine figured that in my first year I lost 135 lbs which came to 2.5 lbs a week (or something like that) I'm not good at math. She said it seemed I lost much faster than that. In the first 3 months I only weighed in from my doctors office at home I never touched a scale. I let my clothes and measurements be my guide. This was not easy . Also that weight loss was not steady , sometimes I'd lose more than other times ,sometimes not at all, but I knew it didn't matter because I would only have to lose that weight once , and it would be gone forever. You must be PATIENT , that's is what I never was pre op. I always wanted to be skinny yesterday. Now I am PATIENT and I am skinny today!!
