Question:
I am 2-weeks post-op, and today I noticed my breast leaking milk...

My daughter will be 3yrs old in Sept. I stopped breast feeding 5 months after her birth. I know I am not expecting. Has anyone had this happen to them before. Please help, I am very baffled : o    — davia.p (posted on August 11, 2001)

Breast milk is usually produced because of the hormone prolactin. You may want to check with your OB/GYN to see what your levels are.I am a maternity nurse. I am not sure if this is anyway related to your WLS.I would recommend you contact your GYN doc to see whats going on.Good Luck

While I don't have any answers, I find it interesting that someone posted with this same concern about a month ago. I hadn't heard of this post op "complication" before that. I am not sure of the answers that she got, but if you check the library maybe she got some answers that will give you additional information. Best wishes!

Did you take anti nausious meds such as reglan(sp?)? When I was breastfeeding my first daughter a doctor prescribed this med to get me to produce more milk, he said it is usually used for anti nausious meds during and after surgegy but one of its side effects was milk production.

I had the same thing happen to me. It is a secondary reaction to the anestisia (sp). It has caused your porlatin levels to go really high. Go see your ob/gyn she can take care of it. It is no big deal just annoying.

I was the one who had that happen a month ago. I still have it! I will be going to the doc in a couple of weeks and will find out what they will do about it. It's just very weird, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.
