Question:
Are strawberries ok at 5 weeks post-op??

Hello all, I am 5 weeks post-op and my Dr. said to go ahead with the solid food diet....I really want to have some strawberries and yogurt, but am leary of the strawberries... have they bothered anyone??? Thanks for the help! Love and Light,    — medium (posted on December 23, 2002)

My doctor did not allow strawberries, or anything else with seeds, for 8 weeks. Your pouch is still healing, and the seeds may get embedded and cause an infection. Hugs,

I would not eat the strawberries--the tiny seeds might do a number on your pouch. Try strawberry yogurt instead.

I would have been OK, though I didn't actually try it, except I did eat the hunks in strawberry yogurt.

I drank strawberry smoothies at about 2 weeks with no problems. Strawberry seeds probably flow right thru us, since there so small.

Thanks to all of you who helped with this question...I ate some yogart with strawberrys today, but opted not to eat the fruit..just ate around it...lol..Don't want to "push" things too soon and get myself into trouble. So far (knock on wood), I have had no dumping or nausia from any food I have tried, but those little tiny seeds...I just don't know. Anyway, thank you all very much! Love and light,

Just to add my two cents. My doc said to avoid the seeds even from strawberries. As for the yogurt, I only like the strawberry flavor, but have always hated the fruit chunks surprises in a spoonful. (Gag me!) I found the Dannon Light and Fit Creamy is perfect! No chucks and great flavor and the dietician from BTC suggested it. Now as I'm learning to read labels I was concerned about the 10gms of sugars but I've had no problems.

I was finally allowed strawberries at 3 months post-op. I threw them in the blender with ProBlend 55, milk, and 2 tsp. of s/f choc. pudding mix...no problems going down or staying down! :)
