Hi Wendy, Iam 6 weeks out and had alot of nausea. I called the Doctor and got a script for Phenergan. I also ate alot of ice chips. Hope this helps.

Do you have Barbara Thompson's book: Weight Loss Surgery, Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside you? One of her suggestions was to take a little bit of peppermint extract and add it to a cup of hot decaf tea. Peppermint is a great help for nausea. She also had quite a few other suggestions. You may find warm liquids more soothing too your tummy rather than cold. Also there are a number of prescriptions available, so don't hesitate to call your doctor. Hope you feel better quickly. Mary

Wendy, Congratulations on your surgery! At 9 days post-op, you're in the 'foamy' stage. Our tummys naturally produce alot of liquid at this point and it caused me terribly nausea as well. I even threw it up, alot! Hot Tea was the only thing that worked for me. I drank Hot Tea almost constantly for the first few months. It is now my drink of choice ~ the warm liquid always feel so good on my tummy and helps with the fluid intake. I have caffinated tea in the mornings, then switch to decaf for the rest of the day. Try drinking a cup of hot tea to see if it helps with the nausea ~ I think it will. And it feels really good too! Best of luck ~ Michelle Open RNY 1/3/03 330/187/175

Call your doc or the one on call, there are meds they can give you to help with it. You don't want to get dehydrated. GOOD LUCK!

A nice cup of warm tea both got me past the nausea stage and kept me nice and warm also. Alot of people will say that you aren't to have the caffeine, but I made very weak tea and it was my BEST FRIEND for about 9 mos. I am 27 month post op and I still drink hot tea every morning and evening. It still calms my tummy when nothing else sounds good or stays down.

Hi Wendy! Sorry you are feeling so yucky! One thing I learned is that in the hopsital, I was on meds for nausea, and then when I came home they were discontinued! So I called my doctor and got a prescription for Phenergan, both pills, and suppositories for when I couldn't keep anything down. Worked like a charm. I am 3 1/2 months post-op, and I still need them on occasion, so it probably wouldn't hurt you to see about getting a prescription for this. (I'm no doctor, I just know what worked for me!) Good luck, and feel better soon! Cindy

hi Wendy ... I too suffered from nausea and got a prescription from my surgeon. Also note, however ... that I was not eating properly ... and once I started to, the majority of the nausea went away. What I mean is, make sure you eat every 2 and a half to 3 hours ... some kind of protein intake. Because I wasn't hungry, I would go for longer periods than that, and once the nausea sets in, just eating won't make it feel better, so you want to keep to a somewhat regular schedule, to avoid the nausea (even if you're not hungry!). Hang in there ... IT DOES GET BETTER!! LAP RNY 06/18/03 -77
