Question:
common weight loss for 3 months post op?

What is the common weight loss for 3 months post op? I am stuck at 40 pounds and have been for almost 4 weeks now. What can I do to kick start the weight loss again?    — Jessikah54 (posted on January 6, 2011)

I lost 45 lbs at 3 months out. In total I have lost 127 lbs. My Dr is very conservative in his diet. I was not allowed to have any carbs until I lost 75% of my weight loss. Good luck!

You didn't mention what type of surgery you had but 40 lbs is good. Don't weigh yourself a lot - you'll get hung up at the plateau times which happens to everyone. I didn't even own a scales. I just knew that if I did what I was told I would lose the weight. The only time I was weighed was when I went to the doctor's. That's great because I always saw double digit weight lose! Don't stress yourself out on the numbers. You'll do fine.

Jessica you sound concerned that you are not loosing enough and you ask for help yet on your profile you posted that you are not following the diet you should be following. "I eat bread, and sugar, I drink coffee, and alcohol. I do drink water during the day and I don't eat a lot, but I don't eat the protein like I should." You have answered your own question. There is no magic associated with RNY. You don't have the surgery then go back to eating like you used to and expect to loose the weight. When you decided to have the surgery you also decided to live an entire new lifestyle. You need to convince yourself that you can do it and get back to the diet your surgeon and dietition layed out for you. Good luck Jessica.

Also Jessica don't dwell on the pounds you lost. Concentrate on the percentage of excess weight you have lost. A 40 pound weight loss means something different to someone that is 100 pounds overweight than it does to someone that is 250 pounds overweight.

I lost 32 Lbs in 3 month. I was a slow looser and it took one whole year to loose 102 Lbs total and 2 more years to loose another 50+ LBS to reach my goal weight. I can say I was an average to slow looser. However I am keeping my weight off and remain doing the right things as eating 60 to 100 oz. of protein a day, walking, and now I am cutting down on carbs......It's not easy to do but it's simple and a daily decision.

For some reason I can't eat Bread, not sure why but it makes me sick every time I try. Sounds like you are doing good. No two people are alike.
