Question:
Help , I had lap band surgery 12/06.

I lost about 42 pounds but now have gained 12 pounds back. I don't feel full, rarely have since the surgery. Has anyone else had this experience.?    — linda4 (posted on February 2, 2008)

Have you had regular fills? I know that when I started gaining a few lbs.. I definately needed a fill in fact had two fills in the space of two weeks. I'm doing good once again. Sometimes it is hard to keep up on the fills. You won't feel near full without decent restriction. Hope things improve soon.

It definitely sounds like you do not have proper restriction. Call your doctor for an appointment and discuss your saline level. Good luck.

I have heard that about the banding. I had the rny 11 months ago. I have lost 248# and not hungry at all. Bob

Linda, I had my band on 1/9/08 I do not feel full either. My first fill is 2/21 hope this feeling will change. I find it a struggle to eat only a 1/4 cup of food when I am still hungry. I haven't gained but not losing stinks! Also, I have only lost 9 lbs since surgery which is discouraging so I think 42 lbs is great. My husband had the surgery a week after I did and can hardly eat anything and continues to lose. Just stick with it maybe your body just needs a chance to catch up with losing 42 lbs. and get a fill if you haven't.

OK banders, this is just my story so please no bashing. I too had the same problem with my band, I had it inserted in October 2005, always hungry and when they finally had my band full all I did was get sick all the time. I finally had enough and decided to have it removed, I had the band for 14 months and lost a grand total of 25 lbs, so I decided to switch to the RNY bypass. I was in less pain post op than when I had the band and now one year later, I am at goal and I can eat again, it feels good. I guess as my doctor tells me I was a lapband failure and it does not work for everyone. I am not trying to convince you to switch, just wait until they have your band adjusted to the right amount and see what happens then. I also had no will power so it was easy for me to cheat, not anymore. Best of luck to you and make that appointment for the fill.
