Question:
Not losing enough?

What is an average amount of weight to lose during the first month after WLS? I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and have lost only 16lbs. I feel good, I don't over eat, I exercise daily and have never had more energy in my life so why only 16lbs? I'm extremely discouraged and am second guessing whether or not I'm doing everything the right way...help, please. Thanks    — misspatrioticone (posted on May 29, 2009)

I can't believe I'm finally in the position to be saying this, but chill-out. I kept asking the same questions at a month and 2 months post op. I actually gained something like ten lbs in the hospital (from fluid) and came home really bummed out....this was after a complete clear liquid diet for ten days pre-op. I lost v e r y slowly at the beginning, then my body stopped being STUNNED, and the melting started. Keep moving....on weeks that I don't miss a day of exercise I always lose more weight. Best of luck to you.

Congrats! Don't be in a hurry...it will come off. Your body is adjusting to the lesser food and surgery. I was a slow loser all the way thru and reached goal in 9-10 months. I had to lose 110 and lost 117. It will all even out. Keep in touch with your nutritionist...At one point I wasn't eating enough and my body was in starvation mode...early on I was dehydrated and you won't lose when that happens. It took me 3 days to get dehydrated and 3 weeks to get rehydrated... Take this time to re educate yourself on food and what/how you feel about it. Learn to eat to live not live to eat. Food is fuel now and not pleasure. It may sound awful, but its life saving and not the end of the world! I actually never thought I could be this happy and fit. I am and you can be too! Bestof luck to you! hugs, kim

Also --make sure you are getting enough protein...around 70 grams a day. This is essential in weight loss. God Bless!

Hello, I agree with the ladies, you must be patient and as long as you're following the directions/instructions of your doctor/surgeon/nut then you will be successful. Hopefully they are your first contact for concerns like these. Congratulations on your 16 lbs, it is an accomplishment, stay positive, stay focus and surround yourself with positive people that are on the same path you are. Sincerely, StrangePassion XOXO
