I am still in the process of quitting, I smoked for 36 years and it is hard to stop....Commit Lozenges help alot. They taste awful but do the trick for nicotine withdrawl. I miss the inhaling mostly, but not the smell or taste now. Take it one hour at a time. Brush your teeth when you get an urge. I found if I really "needed" to smoke, I do it. Then I wash my hands as I can't stand the smell now. You'll find it does get easier over time to just put it away. I'm with you all the way. Good luck!

I didnt quit smoking before surgery. My last cig was the night before surgery...ever since then, I couldnt stand the smell of it and got sick from the smell. I havent smoked since. Maybe you'll be lucky and not smoke after surgery like me! Good Luck

What made it easier for me to quit, was knowing what I was working for. Getting a second chance at a new life, why would I ruin it with cigarettes. I quit last July and have not gone back to it. Hope this helps...

I know how hard it is to quit. I quit a month ago and I won't be having surgery until the fall of this year. What keeps me from smoking is how proud my children are of me and how proud of myself for trying to become healthier. I have quit before and went back everytime the difference this time is I feel I have hope to finally feel good. Best of luck. Tanya

I smoked for 10 years a pack a day. The doctor gave me Wellbutrin Xl, I quit in a week. The smokes will start to taste crappy. It is a anti depressent, but works wonders on smoking, I am now 2 months post op and smoking again, lol. Although I stopped for my WLS. Becareful that you quit at least 3 weeks prior all togeather, or you can have serious complications with your lungs during. Goiod Luck!

It is sooo hard i know i smoked for nearly 18 yrs. when i was told by my surgeon i would have to quit 10 weeks prior to surgery, I just knew i could'nt do it......that was in sept. /05 and i stopped 9/30/05 . I think quitting cigarettes was more of a healthy life change for myself (than even this surgery) I proved to myself that i had the determination to do it, which in turn has given me more reassurance that i can handle the post-op diet, exercise, and vitamin regimens that are required after the surgery. You will feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment after quitting...."YOUR LUNGS WILL THANK YOU" :) having your lungs clear and healthy for surgery will make for less complications and faster healing time. I used the patches and they worked wonders for me~I wish you the best of luck in your quitting & in your weight loss journey!!! SMILES~hope to see you on the losing side soon....keep in touch (RNY 4/5/06~Tiffany) Remember if you need to talk please feel free to email me! :)
