I am 20 days post-op and two nights ago I was finally able to sleep in my bed on my side.....up until then, I was only able to sleep in my recliner or on the couch, both on my back. As far as what was the hardest? I was able to climb stairs the first week I was home with no problem...took me longer than usual, but still with no problem....bending over to pick something up however was almost impossible..but within another week, that was easier also. Hope this helps.

I have always slept on my stomach. Right after surgery for about 4-5 weeks, I had to sleep on my sides with pillows tucked around me. Even during my sleep, I would still find myseld trying to turn on to my stomach, however that wakes you up quickly as it is painful. Now I sleep on my stomach every night again.

Hi Linda......I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and I can tell you that saying on my back in the hospital was the worse part about the whole thing for me. I have had 2 major back surgeries and laying on my back was torture. As soon as I came home from the hospial I tried the recliner because that is how my husband slept for the first while. That lasted all of about 3 hours and then I got my Body pillow (only $8.88 at Walmart) and layed on my side with the pillow supporting my stomach and slept like a baby. I have been on my side ever since. You really want that pillow under your tummy for the first while though. After about a week, I now just sleep with a pillow between my knees like I have for years. Hope this helps.

I am two weeks post-op. I slept on my back and side in the hospital. I have been able to sleep on my stomach since about 7 days after the surgery. lap RNY, 7/25/00.

Hi There, No, just at the beginning, you will have to sleep on your back, and then you will gradully be able to do all positios. And I think bending for me was the worst. Linda
