Question:
Is this normal?

I am 13 months out and only have lost 71.5 pounds.. I pretty much stopped losing weight about 3 months ago. I have done nothing different. No sugar, lots of protein. I still can't eat much. I started out at 231.5 and thought I would have lost the 100 pounds that your suppose to. Has anyone else had this problem. Will I lose anymore or is this it?    — victoria24 (posted on March 19, 2007)

Sorry....but i don't have any answers for you right now. I've seen people lose alot of weight but not everyone is the same. I wanted to have the wls but i was denied because it was excluded from my ins. police. But, since i'm diabetic i need to lose weight on my own to keep my glucose controlled. So, i've been losing weight on my own. Plus, the meds help me alot. So, I've been losing weight on my own. I've lost so far 17 lbs. I wish you the best and that you can loose your weight fast enough. Lol, Andrea.

it sounds like you have met the goal your body is comfortable at. if you have lost almost 72 lbs you should weigh about 160 lbs. and that is reasonable. with wls the estimated wt loss is 2/3 of your excess wt. if you are following your diet correctly then your body has just reached it's comfort zone. congrats on the wt loss and now just focus on keeping the wt off and staying healthy. the only other thing i think may increase your wt loss is exercise. i haven't had my surgery yet, d/t insurance issues, but i'm planning on having it in aug or sept. and i have been to my consultation with the surgeon and nutritionist. hope this helps answer your question, holly

Hi Victoria, Actually you have done great losing 71.5 pounds is alot.. I have went online and searched for plateau-buster.. there are some people out there that have some great ideas to help you through it, hopefully one of them may answer your question too.. I keep hearing to go back to basics, lots of water, protein, limit carbs/sugar.. good luck!!

My doctor told me that it could take up to two years for me to lose my total weight from surgery.

Victoria, everyone is different, so you are normal, even though you are not the best success story anyone has ever written. My friend lost some weight, much like you, and then about 1 and 1/2 years later, she lost more, and now at 3 years she is sporting a size 4/6 just like me. I lost consistently and in a year or a little more lost enough to sport my 4/6. Everyone is different, and if you protein, water and exercise yourself, you will get your best result as well. You don't mention exercise, and that can be your downfall. You will not only quit losing, but begin to gain if you don't exercise. Our honeymoon period is only for a time, and after that, it is diet and exercise like every one else. Please exercise, any way you can, as often as you can. Take care of the weight you have lost, and in time, if you keep faithful to what is right, you will lose more. Take care. Patricia P

Hey... first of all, congrats on the weight loss !!! When was the last time you lost 71.5lbs in 13 mos? Anyway, you say that your protein intake is the same - are you getting enough? Are you getting all of your fluids in? Are you exercising? It may just be that the "honeymoon" period is over and now you will have to work at losing the rest that you have to lose. Good luck..

I am 7 months out & have lost 93 lbs. haven't lost ANYTHING in 2 MONTHS!! I am just at 219 lbs, and I can't believe that I could possibly be at the weight my body is comfortable with!! I've had people tell me it's a plateau or a stall. I'm not to sure & worried myself. If anyone can help with info or advice, please mail me. Thanks!!

Hi Victoria, I am 11 months out and have only lost 87 lbs. I exercise twice a day, get my protein, and drink my water. I haven't lost any weight in a couple of months. Like the person said above, I think my body has reached a weight that it is comfortable with. Of course I am not, which is why I continue to exercise and watch everything I put in my mounth. Good luck!
