Question:
I had my RNY on June 19th and have only lost a total of of 44 lbs.

When I returned to work on Aug. 6th my weight loss was about 44 lbs. and I am not getting pass this point. I have included excercise in my diet and I am trying to eat more than two meals per day. When I say the nutritionist she said I was eating too much at one meal. I have loss inches but I am concerned that I am not going to lose all the weight. In the beginning I was unable to tolerate diet drinks and discovered I am able to eat foods with sugar. My concern is that I will not make it. Please give me any positive advice you can.    — carolyn h. (posted on September 10, 2007)

stop eating sugar, have 3 small meals a day containing at least 7-10 grams of protein and 2 protein shakes. you can make a protein shake for breakfast and drink on the way to work and then have your breakfast at work after a few hours. make sure you are drinking at least 64 oz. of liquid a day, no caffeine. you shouldn't be eating more than 4 oz. of food now. eating twice a day is not enough. you need to get your metabolism going. record your food intake on fitday.com. make sure you exercise. if you follow this you will lose nicely.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I do know you need to remember, Muscle weighs more that fat and as you said you are loosing inches so you are turning that fat into muscle so just keep up the good work and you will get there

What exactly are you eating, drinking, and how much of it, over how much time? WHat is your supplement regimen?

You will slow down you weight loss instantly... if not altogether... and stay away from Soda pop... another big nono.....IM not scolding. I just want you to be successful....You answser your wond question if you read your post... Your worried about loosing and in the same breath admit you are eating sugar... Do the math.... I don't intend this to sound harsh... but sometimes thats what it takes... Only because I care and I have been there... 5 yrs. Post-op.. Your WLS Sister Jo

Just an answer to dispell the MYTH OF MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT NOOOOOOOOOOO IT DOES NOT!!!!!! A pound of muscle weighs THE SAME as a pound of fat!!!!! Muscle is dense and takes up less space, fat is more bulky and takes up more space! PLEASE pass that info on!!!! Thanx, good luck and God Bless!

Finding out you can eat sugar is not a good thing. Erase it from your mind. That is like saying I found out I could have a sex change operation. That don't mean I'm gonna do it. If you don't work at this you are going to have a very difficult time and nobody wants to go through all this drama just to get to the finish line and find out the race was cancelled. You have to want it more than you want the sugar or soda or whatever it is that rules your life. I quite smoking, stopped drinking 2 gallons of Iced Tea a day and went on the Sugar-Free clear liquid diet all on the same day. I am slammin serious about this and just hit 108 lbs lost in 14 weeks. I eat broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, tomatoes, chicken, beef, cottage cheese, eggs, and zuccini I'm having a hard time with the meat and the Protein shakes but everyday I try it again and it is getting better. Everyone has issues no one got a free ride ticket but you have the unusual dissadvantage of knowing you can eat sugar now get back on the WLS trail and do what it takes to be a LOSER with us. check out the article I wrote on my page if you have time. I really believe it. Stay strong.
