Question:
How much weight and how fast do you lose with the gastric sleeve surgery?

I had the gastric sleeve operation on June 16th, 2008. I have lost 13 pounds within the first week but I was just wondering does the weight loss continue pretty fast? When I go to the OH chat room most everyone there has had the gastric bypass so I'm looking for someone to chat with that has had the gastric sleeve and is further out post op from me.    — Jodi L. Hi Jodi, Your right about the main OH board. If you look above at the menu bar you will see th word "forums". This will give you a drop down menu that lists a forum for the gastric sleeve. Perhaps you will get more info there. good luck, you're doing great! Laura

I had vertical sleeve gastrectomy back on March 4th. Since then I've lost 58 lbs. It does come off pretty quick at the start and then tappers down to a slower pace. At the moment I've hit a plataeu and haven't lost any in two weeks, so I'm stepping up the exercise now. The surgery definitely helps and gives you a kick-start, but the rest of it (eating right and exercise) you really do have to do on your own or it will stop. Best of luck and hang in there, it's worth it!

It does slow down, but I was at "goal" at 6 months post op. The sleeve forum is at: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG/a,messageboard/board_id,5463/ Check it out. Lots of great info!

For me, the first couple of months I dropped weight like GANGBUSTERS! After that, things slowed down to about a THIRD of what I had been doing on the first two months. There were a couple of times where I would plateau, and I would have to figure out what I was doing wrong. Usually it had something to do with eating too much and moving too little. Once I got the routine figured out, I was OK. Part of MY problems is changing my thyroid medication. When my medication levels are too HIGH, I can lose weight easily. Unfortunately, adjusting the levels is a matter of trial and error. We have to cut back until the level of thyroid hormone in my blood is not too high. Sometimes it is too LOW, and I can't lose weight. Then we have to readjust my medication. It takes MONTHS for all of this adjusting and testing to occur. On this last adjustment, we have cut back, and I have not been able to lose weight in the last week. I suspect that my next blood test will show that my thyroid levels are too low.
