Question:
Is it normal to have hair loss after the surgery?

Due to insurance requirements, I will not be having my surgery for 5 months yet. I have heard that some people experience hair loss. Is this true and if so, is there something I can do now to help prevent it?    — ddelaney (posted on November 11, 2011)

Yes, it is normal. However, it varies for each person. Personally, I made sure that I found a good stylist to make sure that my hair was healthy beforehand. After, what I found was making sure my protein levels stayed up. I lost very little hair at all. Congrats on your pending surgery!

This is true, however it can be minimized greatly if you take your viatims, get in all your protein, I have to have 90 grams daily, and take biotin. I had very little hairloss.

Yes it is normal, YOU WILL LOSE HAIR....AND LOTS OF IT...your body is going to go through a major shock because PC the surgery...and after the surgery, the protein that your body makes will be delivered to your major organs your hair is the last thing that matters...so it will fall off.....start to take your multivitamins take biotin 5000mcgs and take your whey protein...that is very important...drink your protein and your water.....tIe your protein first then everything else...your hair will eventually grow back....I'm 9 months post IP and my hair is just stRong to grow back....

It is very common. I started to lose my hair around 3mnths post-op. It took about that long of not getting in enough protein for the effects to start to show up. I increased my protein & started taking zinc supplements. Since then my hair has been growing back & is getting thicker all the time. I'm now 9mnths post-op & I don't want to go through that again so I make sure I'm getting enough protein. I keep saying there are only 2 things I miss since my surgery - my hair & my boobs! LOL The hair will grow back....

This is something I also worry about. My surgery has not been scheduled yet. I have been obese my whole life and my hair is my positive attribute. People tell me almost daily how beautiful my hair is. I appreciate the helpful tips so I hopefully won't have to go through the trauma of losing too much of it.
