Question:
Am I on track with the

Hey ya'll...today marks my 5th month post-op anniversary and I have lost 60 pounds so far...and I am very, very happy with the results, but I would like to know if I am on track with the "norm"! I do know that everyone loses at different rates, but I am curious to know how others who are around the same time frame are doing. I had open RNY on November 18....Oh...I eat anything at all that I wish, just much, much smaller portions..lol...and I have not had any problems at all...I do however now crave things I never ate before, and don't like a lot of the things that I use to, but I guess that is all in the "great plan" of things..lol....I actually wonder if my surgeon did a "brain" transplant while he was switching things around! HA!!! Love and light, Lisa    — medium (posted on April 18, 2003)

Hi Lisa, Just wanted to let you know it looks like you are on the same track I was. I lost about 20 lbs per month for the first 4-5 months. I have lost a total of 103 in 7 months. The only difference I see is your eating. Food just did not taste good for about the first 4 months with me. Still very easy but I do now get hungry. Are you getting some kind of exercise in consistently? That is key! My best solution for that was always taking the stairs. Elevators are now like my evil stsp-sister. No matter if it is 4 floors. I consider that free exercise. Better yet, it works the whole lower body. If you have to go up, why not make the most of it?

I am 5 1/2 months out and have lost 80. I have 25 more to go. I had surgery on Nov 6. I still do not eat breads, pastas etc due to trying to avoid a lot of carbs. Carbs slow down the progress. I exercise at least 5 days a week either walking/running and/or aerobic exercise tape. I have went from a size 22 to a size 12 so far.

I had lap RNy on Nov 20 and have lost 80lbs down from size 22 to a 16. I also eat pretty much anything I want but I really focus on getting 60 to 80 grams of protien and all my water. I also do the treadmill 40 minutes 5x a week. I am also very happy with the results and would do it again in a heartbeat. 276/196/160

Lisa, You are doing great! Today is my 5 month mark also (surgery 11/18/02). I started at 296 and weighed 223 as of this morning, for a loss of 73 pounds. Sometimes I feel this is slower than others but I've consistently worked out since day one, starting with walking and then at two months post op joined the gym and started intensive cardio and some weights. Now I do a weight training class 3x a week and either do spinning or the elliptical machine 3-4 times a week. I'm like you in that I can eat anything. Meats don't give me any trouble. I'm a great chewer! :0 My portions are still small, but sometimes it seems I can eat a bunch (liks soft, moist things like chicken salad). I wouldn't trade a quicker loss for being sick and nauseated a lot! Hang in there...you'll make it to your goal.
