Question:
Anyone out there diagnosed with an ulcer post RNY gastric bypass?

Hi, I am about 17 months post op RNY gastric bypass. I've been having really bad abdominal pain for a couple of months. It got so bad that I went in to see another surgeon right before New Years and he said ALL of my symptoms point to an ulcer :(. I have an endoscope scheduled for next week. They wanted to rush it, but I take an anticoagulant (Coumadin) and have to stop that and give myself Lovenox injections to prepare for the procedure. I've been having upper back pain off and on since 3 mos post op, and am just realizing that the pain in the front cooincides with the pain in the back. Just wondering if anyone else has had issues dealing with an ulcer in their pouch. I'm taking Omeprazole right now, but wondering if there is anything that might help the pain. BTW, I know it's not my gallbladder b/c I had it removed before surgery ;). Thanks!!    — Clumsybarbie (posted on January 10, 2012)

Yes developing an ulcer is a common accurance in a mojority of RNY post op patients. Especially in people whom have to take certain aspirin based medications.... aside from removal and pain management medication(you can get them more than once) your Dr. will tell you the best treatment for them....good luck

Hi, I had RNY 3 1/2 years ago and have developed 2 ulcers.I take medication regularly for the ulcers and watch my diet carefully. As for the back pain ......I also experienced that and had my gall bladder removed.......this was done about 10 months before they diagnosed the ulcers.Hope your endoscope gives you some answers. Hang in !!!

Hello how are you? What you are explaining is exactly what has happened to me. I would love to give you my phone number so that I can talk to you and tell you about my problem. I had been sick for months and every doctor I went to would tell me they don't know what's wrong with me. They at first thought it was my gallbladder and then I had a egd where it showed I had a 6cm ulcer they gave me medicine to fix the ulcer but it only got worse my 1st EGD was done in July by the 1st of September my ulcer was 10cm covering my whole pouch! Well by October I was hospitalized with bein severely malnourished they put a Picc line in my are and TPN vitamins anyways I have so much more to tell you and I have been wanting to go on my page and blog but I just got out of the hospital yesterday I was in for 11 days this time but the great thing is I had surgery had the problem fixed and it wasn't the ulcer!!! It was a number of other things and I would love to tell u about it. I don't ever post my phone number on here but I feel like I need to share my story with others who have the same symptoms as I did. Now Praise be to God I feel so much better only pain from surgery. And now I am able to eat without getting sick feeling nauseas or vomiting I am pain free now except for like I said surgery pain but I don't have pain anymore when I eat!!! Anyways if you would like to talk please feel free to call me 239-204-8667 I know I can possibly direct you down what path you should take. I know ur problem saying why would she do that well I promised God over a year and a half ago that as soon as I was healed that I was going to try to help other bypass patients who are suffering like I was... God Bless, Sherry Benjamin

For anyone with a suspected ulcer are you a smoker? Smoke tends to irritate the pouch causing a very hard to treat ulcer:( so if your smoking QUIT! I have had minor ulcer troubles from time to time, divorce will do that to you:(
