Question:
SHOULD I BE CONCERNED I HAVE ONLY LOST 45 LBS..

I HAD SURGERY 8/31/88 FIVE WEEKS POST-OP I WAS DOWN 39 LBS FROM 341 JUST GOT OFF THE SCALE A MINUTE AGO ONLY DOWN 6 MORE LBS DOES THAT MEAN I'M LEAVELING OUT ALREADY. i WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION I SHOULD BE LOSING 20-30 LBS THE FIRST THREE MONTHS AFTER SURGERY IF I'M ONLY EATING PROTEINS. SHOULD I NOT EAT FOR ONE DAY THEN GO BACK TO PROTEINS ONLY TO JUMP START MY MRTAB???    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 19, 1999)

I understand completely how you feel. I had my surgery on 8/19/99 and have only lost 44lbs. It is my understanding that once you start eating that your weight loss slows alittle plus you will hit plateaus on and off. I just spoke to my doctor's office and they thought my weight loss was good. The only thing I can suggest is making sure you are getting enough protein and water. Also check the fat contents of the food you are eating. Eating foods that are high in fat will also slow down your weight loss process. Keep the faith that's what I am doing. Are you clothes getting to big. I am having to go through my closet for the first time to try on smaller clothes, feels good.

From 8/31/88 or 99?? If 1988 .. yes ... I'd be seriously concerned ... 6 weeks and 45 lbs lighter on the other hand ... GOOD WORK!!! :) Thats about a pound a day!!! Congrats!

Br proud of your weight loss! We all always want it to come of faster than it does, don't we? Since my surgery I plateau all the time. I won't lose an ounce for a week, then drop 3 pounds overnight. One thing I have found is that if I walk it makes all the difference in the world! Even if its just a little bit. Park further away from the store when you're out running errands. Walk down every aisle of the store instead of just the ones you need. Every little bit helps! Good luck. Jaye Carl, open proximal RNY 7-29-99, 63 pounds gone forever!

I suppose you mean, 8/31/98. Yes 6 lbs in 1 month is a little slow. Perhaps you should take a long walk every morning to increase your metabolism. Make sure you are not taking in any high calorie liquids like ice cream, soda, milk shakes, etc. These steps usually work for my patients.

i also plateau about 5-6 wks and around 40 lbs. it lasted about 2 wks and then kept going. i found if you quit eating, you dont lose any either because your body tends to shut down. i do best when i eat 3 meals a day. good luck

Well gee! Now I'M really concerned! I'm just over 5 weeks and have only lost 35!! I've only lost about 1 pound in the last week and a half! This is my first plateau and it is hard to deal with. I keep wondering if I did this all for nothing! My friends just keep telling me the weight will come off. Let's hope so!
