Question:
I am a little worried...lately, my appeitate has picked up and I am so scared that I

have strected out my stomach. Besides the cottage cheese test, is there a way for me to tell? I am seven months post-op and lost 90 pounds so far and I can eat almost half a bagel! Is there something wrong with me? I am really nervous. I still have 30 pounds to go. Any advice from anyone I would appreciate. Also, give me some tips on how to become and stay successful. I don't want to gain this weight back. Thanks and God bless. — JONEEN R. (posted on March 20, 2004)

I am just about at the same point that you are... only I have only lost 76 lbs... but I have maybe 30 more to go. I also can eat way more than I use to eat and it is part of the "process".... you are finally healing on the inside. Just make sure you WATCH what you eat... and consider that we are still malabsorbing some of our foods... We have the first 18 MONTHS to lose this weight.... and it will happen. God bless you in your journey!

Hi Joneen, First of all take a deep breath!! There is nothing wrong with you. It is very normal to have your appetite return about the 6 month mark. Eating half a bagel is not too much for your stomach to handle at this point of the game. It is very natural for the stomach to heal up, and be able to accomodate more food. Your weight loss has been outstanding! The way to keep up your weight loss is to follow your surgeons guide for post op eating, and make sure your excercising. This will help you soooo much now! Keep up the great work!! You have done wonderful! God Bless you! Erin Lap RNY 4.10.03 290/155/150

Yes, it's scary, and totally normal. Your appetite will return, your capacity increases, and you have to be more vigilant. Now is the time to review the pouch rules because not is when you REALLY need them. Dense protein foods will keep you full longer. Not drinking close to meal times will keep the food in your pouch longer. Water loading works, as well as staying away from refined carbs which make you hungry. Good luck! It's all part of the journey.

It's ok, as time goes by your pouch will stretch a little. I still eat right and do the right things. I have loss 195 lbs and I also notice I can eat more. just stay focused on your foods cals, carbs, etc. and the amount you eat. I think it will be ok as long as we do this. I have more to loss also, it's harder now but I have no doubt that I will reach my goal. hang in there and congratulations on your great wt loss.<<>>400lbs/205/-195 lbs<<>>15th month<>open rny<>goal wt 150-160 lbs<>

I feel like I eat like a pig again! Everyone has been making fun of me b/c everythime you look at me, im munching on something. I already ate 2 whole bags of popcorn, a can of tuna, a can of pees, a 20oz pop and a protien bar, this was on my 8hr shift at work this morning. Pretty bad huh!?! I still maintain my weight, but sometimes I gain and have to re-lose those pounds and I still want to lose about 10 more, so I need to eat less, but im feeling so hungry, well I think I am anyways. Good luck! 267/134/146/139 and stuck!

Listen to what you said. You can eat almost half of a bagel. That is not anything compared to pre-op. As time goes on, we are able to eat more, but it will never be the large amounts we ate before. So try not to worry, almost half of a bagel isn't much at all. :)
