Question:
Almost 4 weeks post op, can 1200 calories make plateau happen?

I am almost 4 weeks post op and have been "stuck" since week 2. At first I didn't think I was eating enough, I felt very nauseous, and now maybe too much. At first it was pushing 600 calories and now I feel like a pig and am eating around 1200. I eat almost because I feel I have too (and in the evening am bored), I'm definitely not hungry. However very dismayed at plateau. I have to go back to work soon and am worried about doing all this and working. Any suggestions for any of the above? Thank you all so much!    — aliciainoh (posted on February 8, 2008)

Plateaus happen, they are a natural part of weight loss. You didn't say what kind of surgery you had. I had RNY and there's NO WAY I could consume that amount of calories 4 weeks out. Are you writing your food down and eating protein first? What are your carbs like? You're not a pig, but maybe you need to fine tune your meal plan. Check with your nutritionist too, to be sure you're on track. Good Luck!

hi, I am not sure which operation you had done. I am 8 months post-op from the bypass and I have a really hard time getting in my 900 calories a day. try to eat things that are lean and fat-free.in 8 months I have lost 90 pounds but it does take some time. Just keep track of what you eat and see where you might be able to make some changes. There is a good web site you can use called Fitday.com it will help you keep track of everything. Best of luck.

Plateaus can happen weight does not lose overnight. Also you might be losing inches and just do not know it. You can lose inches and not weight. Do not push yourself to eat that much otherwise you will not lose weight. If you think you are hungry eat some gum it might satisfy that eating in the mouth thing or drink something because then you can't eat. Well not suppose to, that is just some small ideas.

Your Post dsid not say much to help us reply, but it sounds like your had a Lab Band and have not been for a fill. If you had a RNY you are eating too much for shuch a short time, and need to focus on the right foods. Remember WLS is just a tool, you determine how to use that tool. However, plateaus happen for up to two weeks and then you should start to lose again. Figth snacking. It is not going to give you positive results, but you know that already.

If you want to be successful with your weight loss, you need to honest with yourself, and you need to resolve the root of your eating issues. I suggest talking to a therapist/counselor who is experienced with helping 'food issue' clients. I am almost 2 months post-RNY, and I have a difficult time getting in the recommended 600-800 calories. I also have 'food issues' and find myself going to the kitchen out of boredom, anger, stress, and HABIT. I need to acknowledge what I'm doing and why and get back out of the kitchen. As for the scale, you are hurting yourself mentally if you keep on weighing yourself. At the beginning, it is exciting, but then it can damage your motivation during plateaus. Give your scale to someone to keep for a couple weeks or put it in an inconvenient place - like out in a garden shed. Out of sight, out of mind. Your weight will fluctuate all day based on intake, water retention, etc. You made a decision to get the surgery... now you have to make the decision to be successful. (You deserve it!)

As mentioned in a previous post, please review what you are eating, how often and the quantity. I will be 5 years post op in May and a normal day of eating for me is 1100 calories. I can go over but not often.

I had the RNY on Jan. 7th. Since then I have had a hard time getting in 500 calories a day. I am very careful not to over eat. As far as the scales, they never moved for 12 days in January, But I am down 44 lbs! Good luck with your weight loss.

Dont forget this is a tool. Dont eat because your bored. Find something to do. I am 4 yrs out and I cant eat that much. I had RNY. I have heard with the band you can eat more. Be careful of your sugars and carbs and fats. High calorie foods. I am assuming you had the band because there is no way you would be eating that much with RNY.
