Question:
What are some foods allowed in the first two weeks out of surgery?
I am waiting for approval from Ins. I want to get things prepared at home including foods or liquids. What can I have the first two weeks? Clear Liquids? Purees? ????? Thanks Please E-mail me [email protected] — Mitzie D. (posted on May 14, 2002)

You need to ask your surgeon what he has his patient eat early post-op.
Every doctor seems to do things differently. I was on full liquids a week
after leaving the hospital and that mainly consisted of SF popscicles, V8
Juice, and Crystal Light. At 12 days post-op, I started soft foods. I had
Cream of Wheat, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, canned salmon, canned tuna,
baked potatoes, baked fish, etc. At 6 weeks, I started eating fresh
veggies and fruits.
But be sure to find out what YOUR doctor's post-op diet is. You need to
follow his advice.

Hopefully you will have a doctor that has this all written out for you. My
doc has a booklet that spells out each week. We are on 3 weeks of liquid, 1
wk of mush, 1 wk of soft and then to regular. I knew exactly when and what
to eat. Check with your doctor.
