Question:
Anyone have abnormal results with random urine drug test?

I just got off the phone with one of our support group memebers and she was very upset. Her employer did a random urine drug test and she was informed that she failed. No drugs were detected, but they are claiming she substituted her urine and said the urine they tested wasn't human urine. She said the Dr. was a complete jerk and wouldn't entertain any idea that he or the lab could be in error; or that any of her supplementation or results of WLS could be the reason for the failed test. Her creatinine and specific gravity, they claim, were way below the normal range. (I told her she needs to find out what lab they send it to in Ohio and get a list of what "their" normal ranges are). Her specific gravity was 1.022 g/ml which by most values is well within normal and measured ranges. Her creatinine was 1.80 mg/dl. According to most normal values this is actually a little above normal range. In both specific gravity and creatinine, increase water, lean body mass, increase protein intake, and certain herbal supplements can alter test results. Has anyone ever had this happen and found out that their diet/supplementation have been the reason for the abnormal results?    — victoriandove (posted on August 31, 2003)

If I was her I would be on the phone to the surgeon to find out what happens in relation to these tests when one is a WLS patient. I'm sure for some things the "norm" changes for us. There is always a 2nd test. It also might help to have some of her lab results sent to the company which shows that these readings are now normal for her, if that's the case.

Hi Lisa- Not human urine?? Did your friend bring her dog with her?? Is she an alien?? Please excuse my sarcasm, when I hear something so ridiculous, I get defensive and sarcastic. I would suggest that your friend go to her human resource dept and explain that she feels (actually "knows") that there was an error somewhere. How can they argue with her, when it's so absurd to say that her urine wasn't human! Then I would suggest she go to her own PCP and get re-tested, or at least some guidance as to why those crazy results would come up. Good Luck :o) Mea

Well, you could tell he to offer to take the test again with another female in the bathroom watching her that way there will be no question. This is how its done in the military....Ugh!
