It all depends on how much physical activity you are doing.

I am 7 months out and still in the process of losing weight. My surgeon told me 800 calories per day and to try for zero carbs. I have heard some people say they're eating 1,000 - 1,100 calories per day a year or more after surgery. Perhaps someone else can give more info.... If you exercise a lot, or sone, you can afford some more calories; but if you don't, you might want to go with a lower amount. You should consider asking your Family Doctor, or Surgeon, or Nutritionist how many calories/carbs to maintain your weight, or to lose more if you need... Best wishes!

Here's a great site with many calculators to figure out your specific body weight, height and age requirements...It's best to have a nutritionist do a metabolism test on you to see for certain the exact numbers or you can just log your food in a journal and figure out what you are eating and how much will show a gain or a loss...Then you know...Maintainging you weight means you are eating exactly the right amount and should never over eat what you do...Adding exercise makes you burn more and you can handle more calories to maintain or eat the same or less and lose... Here, try these tests to get an idea http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

Wow! Congrats on the weight loss... 170lbs in a year is great. I would suggest asking your surgeon/nutritionist about carbs/calories, because its different from person to person. The fear and guilt you are feeling may be a sign of depression. You've done such a great job taking care of yourself physically, now its time to take care of yourself mentally. Please find someone to talk to about how you are feeling... your primary care doctor or surgeon can refer you to a counselor or a support group. Hang in there!

Cindy- Congratulations on your weight loss! That is great! I am almost 3 years out. I do not and have never watched my calories. I do still monitor my protein and water each and every day. I also weigh myself every day. I allow myself a 5lb weight swing. If I do not stay in that weight range I cut back on carbs and increase protein until I am back in my range. I tend to eat less carbs in any event because the sugar that they turn into upsets my stomach and I wind up bloated and gassy. Certain food that is high in citric acid and sugar are killers for me. Pineapple is the absolute worst. I still eat very small bites of it from time to time -:-) At any rate, I also get to the gym or get on a bike or do some other exercise at least 5 times a week. From my surgery date I have lost approx 175lbs and so far I have kept it off. Actually I got too thin last year when I dipped down under 130 and it was not pretty. I looked like a whippet. At any rate, I had to work to build my weight back up. My goal is strength at this point. You can be thin as a twig but have no physical strength or endurance. Don't know if this helps you or not. Good luck on your maintenance program. Resolved VA

My surgeon and nutritionist recommend no more than 30 gms of non-vegetable carbs/day. Good luck, Dawn
