I was off of work for 4 weeks when I had my WLS in November 2005.

I was off work for four weeks. When I went back, I was on a lifting restriction of 10 pounds. I probably should have stayed home at least another week or two, but it depends on your job and the activities that you are required to perform on your job. Your dr. will know what is best for you.

Again the answer to this question is how long is a piece of string. I don't know what surgical procedure you have chosen. But lap band can have you home in a day or so, and by pass a week maybe. but either way, your body needs time to adjust to the change in the ammount of calories that you will be geting. (Much few than now) So it depends on how you feel. After banding I was back at work in a couple of weeks, then after revision from banding to BPD it took about 4 weeks and the change was remerkable. But six ,months after that surgery I felt strong enough to take on Hercules

Depends on your type of surgery and doctor. My surgeon does lap RNY only and she normally allows two weeks off but she will do more or less depending on how you are feeling and how much time you can miss from work. I know a guy who used this surgeon who didn't have much vacation time and only took a week off. I had my gallbladder out lap a couple of months ago and 2 weeks was what I needed, I presume it will be the same with WLS.

I had surgery on a Thursday, and was back at work on Monday. I took care of myself with no lifting for about two weeks, stayed on my eating schedule, and avoided stairs of a few days. Otherwise I was good to go. I also stayed in the hospital onl 24 hours.

The answer is there is no one answer. My sister had the surgery and was back to work a little over a week after. I had the surgery six weeks ago and went back after four weeks and then went back only half time for the past two weeks. But, I had sick time and decided to use it. I was in pain up until the fourth week and could not sleep lying down in my bed until after the third week, so I felt justified in staying home four weeks. Another member of my support group went back to work on a business trip three days after surgery. Everyone is different. The amount of time off depends on you, your health, your job, the type of surgery, how much time you can take off, how you feel, and your activity level. Safely say it can range from a few days to a few weeks.

I sit for most of the day at work. I had the OPEN RNY with no complications. I took 4 weeks off and the the 5th week I worked 1/2 day.

I took off 3 weeks initally, then after 2 weeks felt great so I went back to an office job that I sit at. THEN I got the flu that Monday, so I ended up missing the 3rd week. RNY - Dec 13, 2005

I like Kim's answer -- as long as you can get away with it. My partner stayed out 4 weeks

Depends on your procedure and type of work you do. I work in an office and came back 1/2 days after 8 days. I probably should not have pushed as I had to wear sweats and walk very slowly. After 3 weeks no pain or pain meds. Each person will respond differently Good Luck
