Question:
Which to choose? Lap-Band System or Realize Adjustable Gastric Band?

For those of you that have chosen to have the band for WLS, which one of the bands did you choose (Lab-Band System or Realize) and why? I've read up on both, but would also like to know what "real life" experience/recommendation that other have had with either of these, pro or con. Thank you!    — Libby R. Libby, Before you decide on which lap band, go to "Mini Gastric bypass" and click on the u-tube of Dr. Rutledge, He does a surgery with very few complications and has thousands of reviews from his patients. Alot of them are people who had lap band surgeries with multible complcations After watching 100s of their videos over about a month or so time I changed my mind about Lap Band. I believe you need all the information you can get. I hope this helps. Michael

I have the lapband and have the realize band. It is easier to adapt to after surgery. However, my doctor was one of the first 25 to use it in the US. When you went in for surgery at that time HE DECIDED what was best for me. If you want addtl info, email me.

I have the Realize Band and love it. I have lost 50 pounds in 2 months.

I have the lapband and am so glad I did it. Wish I had done it years ago. I opted for the lapband over the realize band due to the port. Research all your options and figure out what you'd be comfortable with.

I have the lapband system band. I have done great with it. On the other hand my sister in law got the realize band and she has not done near as well as I have. I am beginning to think the more you weigh the better the realize band is. Personally I think if you are over 3oo pds you may want to go with the realize for sure. I only have 2cc's in my band and have maintained fine. I am almost 3 years out. My starting out weight was 231. My sister in law is only 6 months out and she has right at 6 and a half cc's in her band with still little restriction. So I am no doctor for sure, this is just my opinion. I just feel the bigger band seems to work better for larger people. My sister in law was under 300 starting out. Some where in the 250's. I hope this has helped.

I had the realize band because I like the fact that the port had hard plastic around it and it would be harder to puncture. I paid for this myself and the thought that they could puncture it in the wrong place and I would have to have it replaced at my own cost was not acceptable.
