Question:
Pre-op dieting question.

Hello, my question is this: I go for my pre-op testing in exactly 14 days, (surgery Oct. 16) my Dr. wants me to loose 10 more pounds by then. HOW AM I GOING TO DO THIS!? I am open for suggestions. Thanks for all the help. Jean    — Jean N. (posted on September 28, 2006)

Hi, I was the same way. I cut out all carbs: no bread, pasta, potatoes, sweets, sugar. I got protein shake and started drinking that. I drank more water and no food after 6 pm. if you get hungry drink protein shake. When I went in 1 week later I was 15lb down, I hope this helps. NO ALCOHOL>

I was told to have a Slimfast with fruit for Breakfast and Slimfast for lunch with some lunchmeat or some type of protien and for dinner a Healthy Choice meal or a smaller portion of dinner, NO SNACKING! I hope this helps. Tanya

HI, Try doing what they will have you do after surgery, go to a liquid diet if you can, focus on lots of proteins, try the Advantage Shake (by EAS) found at Walmarts, Sams.. they are very good and filling, if you find you need food try the South Beach Breakfast bars, very little sgar and lots of protein and tasty.. and drink LOTS of water.. drink it until you float!!! Good luck!!!! April

Cut out all carbs, all fats, all oils, all salts, all sugars and up your water intake to 120oz per day. Do fresh fish, chicken or turkey (no beef) and eat lots of veggies. If you must eat something sweet do sugar free...but remember the carbs will make you gain or retain weight. Water is HUGE. Think of fat as a piece of chewed gum. When it's try, it's sticky. When it's wet, it's not. Keeping hydrated will allow the fat to be flushed out of the body easier. Eat small amounts 5-6 times a day to keep your metabolism up constantly. I lost 12lbs in a week and a half. Hope this helps!

Hi Jean, In the last two weeks I lost according to my scales about 8-9 pounds I thought but according tho the Doctors it was 16 pouonds yesterday. I went to www.fiday.com and counted calories, I did eat very small amounts of carbs, but went for the protein. I have to do their pre-op diet for 2 weeks now & should loose another 10 pounds. Connie

I asked my doctor about losing 10 lbs and he said I don't really have to because I am not that big now. I will still watch at least one week before and probably will stick to protein shakes and fruits and veggies, all natural stuff, no chemicals and no carbs!

I did slimfast carb control 3x a day with one very light no-carb dinner from June 1-15 and lost 9 pounds. My dr wanted me to lose 10 but they were okay with 9. I also wore the lightest chiffon skirt I had in my closet to the dr. appointment and made sure it was a morning appt.

If I could have lost the wweight without surgery, I wouldn't have needed the surgery! Just do your best.
