My niece had her surgery (VGS) on Oct. 29th, she has went thru alot, first she had to go back in to have the opening stretched, then she got a kidney stone, it didnt go away so they had to go in a laser it, after that she got bladder infection, once that was cleared up it was smoothe sailing for her (64 pounds down) and I am sure once you get this pain and what's causing it under control you will be losing again in no time. I will say prayers for you that you will be feeling better in no time. God Bless!!

hi jennie- have you been taking pain meds? Most post ops dont realize, nor are told, pain meds, such as vicodin, those with a large sodium content inhibit weight loss. yep, believe me- i could never understand why i only lost huge amts of wt 1 week out ofv 4, but that 1 week i dropped the wt, was the week i was out of my medicine. I then did a blind study, and yep, certain meds will inhibit the loss. Now most post ops arent on pain meds every day, i am just one of the lucky ones. Still taking it, not its not the sodium thats the problem, its the 80% MALABSORPTION, I HATE IT MY BODY ONLY USES 20% of each pill i take. Hang in there, things will settle down once your medical problems are solved. give yourself a break, and ask for all your pain meds in elixir form . God bless. I guess I would recommend you trying your best to eat healthy and to exercise a little if you can and hang in there. Sometimes it is best to deal with the current situation- which for you is pain and some medical issues. This won't last forever and you'll get through it although it may not seem like it when you're in the thick of it. Once your medical issues are better, you can re-focus on your WLS and your goals. 54# is nothing to shake a stick at- a 5 gallon jug of water is 40#- pick one up and carry it around for a while and you'll realize just how much it is. It's ok if the weight loss is slow, you're not gaining right? You are also depressed and in pain and no longer able to stuff your emotions with food as before so you are having to feel and experience them- it is hard, perhaps you are in mourning for losing your best friend- food as well. Hang in there, take it hour by hour, day by day and things will get better. Best of luck, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

Jennie, Hi. Chin up, girl! You will get thru this. Like the others have said in their posts; take care of what problems are coming up and you will be fine and start losing weight. A kidney stone is serious; I had one and it passed but it is extremely painful. If they tell you they can laser it or something like that to help; let them. It is easier on the body. One post mentioned pain meds-take them if you need them-be aware of the side effects of pain meds. Vicodin can cause constipation or other problems like depression. It is possible you have an allergy to it. I can't take anything with codeine so Vicodin would be out for me. Just suggestions. Taking the pain med might also help with the depression. Go to your docs and tell them what is going on with you. Pray. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

I had a kidney stone a little over a year after surgery. It was small so I was able to pass it without any type of surgical procedure. It did not interfere with my weightloss at all. However, as far as losing weight fast, I never did. I was a slow loser since the very beggining. I didn't lose any weight the first 3 weeks after surgery. I often questioned my decission, but in the end, it did come off. Hnag in there. Stick to your doctor's guidelines, eat your protein, drink your water and, walk as much as you can. Good luck.
