Question:
Has anyone suffered from Intertrigo post op?

For those who aren't familiar with intertrigo, it is a rash caused by a yeast infection under folds of the skin.    — regina6913 (posted on June 17, 2009)

I haven't had it post-op....yet...but I did have it pre-op. It is more common in the summer months. If your skin is unbroken you can clean the area, pat it dry and apply a layer of diaper rash ointment. You'll be a lot better in 24 hrs and by day two it should be healed. It worked for me anyway. I hope it does for you too.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I did experience this after my c-section 2 years ago. I tried to use OTC creams but they didn't work that great, my doctor prescribed Nystatin. It come in cream form and powder, it is for skin yeast infections.

Yes, I have had it twice - my surgery was in early March. I treated it like I've always done (I get it all the time, even prior to surgery)... with either lotrimin (for athlete's foot) or with Unguentine (for burns, scrapes and rashes). Other than that, you just need to keep it clean and dry - use an anti-fungal powder if you can. If you plan to have the excess skin removed when you've stopped losing weight, it's extremely important that your doctor document EVERY TIME you get a rash like this. There should be pictures of it, and notes in your chart as to what he or she prescribes for it, because most insurance companies don't cover "cosmetic" surgery. This documentation would bring it under the heading of "medically necessary"....

I am still pre-op and have this issue under my belly and breasts. The trick is keeping the area dry... I have the best results when I actually dry off these areas with a hair dryer, just be careful not to burn your skin! Then I will use a powder like the nystatin or Johnsons with corn starch. Good luck!!

You know, I haven't had it that I can think of but hopefully I do get it so that I can have my insurance cover the skin removal as medically necessary!
