Question:
LIGHTWEIGHTS! I would love to hear from you on your loss...

I am considered a lightweight (was 240, now 219 and a week from surgery). I was wondering about how much you lost, and if there was a pattern to it like is it slower for us "lightweights" after surgery? Please tell me your stories for inspiration!! I'm surviving the liquid diet as I speak, lol.    — eyeflirt4fun (posted on December 4, 2009)

I'm not sure if I was a lightweight, maybe a middleweight. Started at 268, on surgery day 250. 4 month's later 196 about 4 lb's a week and down from size 22/24 to size 14(and these are getting to big). My Dr. and Nut are pleased with my results, I feel great! You will survive the liquid diet, I still love the sf popcicles. Best wishes.

If you read my profile, it will explain how I was able to get by. I will post more for you later. But the profiles sometimes explain a lot for pre op patients and it gives everyone out there hope. best wishes

I am 5'2" and was at 239 lbs on my 1st dr visit, 229 lbs pre surgery. My surgery was on 4/15/09 and I am now at 148 lbs. I was wearing a size 20 and am wearing a size 10 very comfortably right now. I still have 13 lbs to get to my goal weight, but the weight loss has slowed down, but not stopped. I am very please with my progress and have no regrets.

Pre Op weight I was 245, then I went on the liquid diet for 12 days lost 10 lbs. Almost 4 months out I have lost 73 lbs. Anyone telling you that this is an easy surgery is lying, however, if I had to do it again, in a heartbeat. Your life will change.

I had my RNY 8/08. I was 268 and a size 24/26 the day of. I am now 140 and a 10P. The first 70lbs came off fast, after that I actually had to work at it. At the gym every day and really counting calories and fat grams.

I am 5'10 so height is on my side. I was 261 the morning of my surgery and 7 months later I am 167 and loving life!!! I lost very quickly but also work out a lot. I walk 4-5 times a week and lift weights at the gym 2-3 times a week. I can really tell a difference in the shape of my body since I started lifting weights. My doctor says that he doesn't want me to go below 160 or I won't look healthy. I lost quite a bit right off the bat (first 2 months) and then feel into a pattern of losing about 8 lbs a month. Now that I'm almost to goal it's slower coming off. I also hit a plateau about once a month where I only lose about .5 lbs and then the next week about 3-4 comes off at one time. Everyone is different. The key is to follow your doctors advice to the T and excercise! Best of luck to you.

I weighed in at 248 on first Dr visit, 218 morning of surgery, 122 18 months later. RNY surgery date was 2/22/08. I went from a size 24/3x to size 2-4 in one year! Shoe size from 9-91/2 to 7 1/2-8. I have had T insison tummy tuck and breast reduction (from 42H to 34B). Plastic surgery did not change the size I was wearing but did get rid of the daily reminder of my obesity. Now life is good! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY!

I think I was a light weight? I am 31 years old, 5 foot 4 (maybe a smidge over that height), and started out the day of my surgery consultation at 286. I lost 15 lbs before surgery and 103 since my surgery which was 11 months ago. I am now at 168. Went from size 26 to a size 11 jeans. I want to lose about 30 more lbs. I was just happy to get under 200, and then when I got to 170 that was another personal goal of mine because that was what I was before I had my three sons (who are now 11, 9, and almost 7). I had gastric bypass surgery 1/8/09.

Hello, I was 5'2 and 235 the day of surgery which was 8/12- I am now down to 192. When I went to my last visit I did not think that I was losing enough but at three months out they expected me to lose 25% of by weight and I was down to 29%...hope that helps.

Don't believe the fallacy that lightweights can't loose like a champ. I started my program at 5"2', 248, 234 the day of surgery (March 24, 09). 8 months out I am 139, that's 109 lbs and my bmi is 25.6. In 3 lbs I will have a normal bmi. I've definately gotten slower in my loss, but I'm still loosing--as a matter of fact, I wish I would stop at this point, but I do want to get a normal BMI for at least a day. I'll be there hopefully as my christmas present to myself!!

i was 245 now at 154. It was seemed slow to me but it came off in the first seven months. I want to get to 137 but have been stuck for the past several months. At 18 months now. Not gaining, just not losing. It is so worth it all.

I was def considered a light weight. At 5 ft tall I weighed 204 as of Sept 17th 2008. That was the date of my rny surgery. As of today Dec 8, 2009 I have lost 85 lbs and weigh 119. I was afraid that they would make my pouch larger since I wasnt as big as a lot of people but as you can see, things are going along just fine. The weight came off really fast the first 5-6 months. Then I would bounce back in forth for a few weeks then the scales will go down. The losses are further in between as time goes on, but thats ok, since I dont want to get below 115lb.s We dont loose as much as fast but we dont have as much to loose so it all evens itself out in the end. Best of luck to you! LeAnne
