Question:
Do you generally hit a plateaus with your period?

I am 5 weeks post-op and just had my first period after my surgery. I lost 42 pounds the first 4 weeks, but now nothing. I am not sure if it is because of my period, or just me. Then again maybe I am just spending too much time worrying about the scale.    — Rosie W. (posted on January 6, 2003)

Rosie, it is quite common to hit the first plateau at around week 3-4 post-op. Its the body's way of trying to play catch up. Its just figuring out what is going on and thinking that you are starving it, its holding off any more weight loss for now. It won't last long- my first one was 10 days long at about the 3 1/2 week mark. Then it will pick up again. But be prepared to have more. Some are lucky and don't experience them, others of us are the Queens of the Plateaus.

Hi. I am almost 10 weeks post-op. I have had my period twice since surgery, and each time my weight loss not only stopped, but I gained a pound or two. But it will come off the following week. Try not to worry about it.

I ALWAYS stop losing or gain weight around my period. Usually I gain about 2-5 pounds of water weight. The thing to remember is that a couple days after your period stops, you WILL drop that weight. Try not to get discouraged. :o) Nice name by the way heehee :o)
