Question:
HAS ANYONE BEEN EFFECTED WITH THE GOUT AFTER THE WEIGHT LOSS?

I HAVE HAD A BAD CASE OF THE GOUT AND WAS WONDERING IF MY WEIGHT LOSS HAS EFFECTED THE SYMPTOMS? WHAT SHOULD I DO TO AVOID THE GOUT?    — TIM M. (posted on July 17, 2005)

Yes, I got hit by Gout! Thought I had broke my ankle. Found out I couldn't live on Shrimp. Once I backed off the Shrimp 3 times a day, the gout went away. Protein is good for the body but TOO Much protein can really hyrt us. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.

Ok. Everyone have a good laugh but this DOES work for some of us. I read about this many years ago and laughed my fool head off. Surely it was a joke. But I've had gout for around 20 years (both before and after wls). It is in my big toes and is EXTREMELY painful. The meds I took before wls was eating my gut. Anywho, what I do is this. Right before bed I spray my toes with WD-40. (Yes, WD-40). Let it dry some, and spray some more. When my toes have soaked much of it in, I put an old pair of socks on. 1-3 nights of doing this, and for me the gout goes aways for several months. I repeat as needed. Now some people say this also helps their arthritus. But for me, it only helps the gout. Now that you've had a good laugh, give it a try. All you have to lose is just 5 minutes, a pair of socks and a good laugh. ;)

If you have gout, you should avoid alcohol, all fish, and sodium. Those things can trigger or worsen symptoms of gout. Hope this helps.

I am not laughing about the WD 40 but I wonder how it works as gout is an excess of uric acid in the body...Hubby takes allopurinol for it daily. Not sure though if we can take that.He has to avoid peas, fried foods, peanuts.

Kathy, I'd like to know how it works too. But for me it does and I don't have to avoid any types of food ether. So that is a plus.

I am a gout sufferer and have had gout since 1972. When i had my LAP RNY, my surgeon said that I would be rid of Gout. He was correct, in that during the past two years, I had two flare ups and they were minor. I take 300 mg of Allopurinol and 2 Colchicine (.6) tablets each morning. I eat shrimp, bacon and other proteins and my uric acid seems to be fine. Gout is Arthritis and today I was diagnosed with "major" Osteoarthritis in my right wrist. The doctor feels that it is a remnant of a gout attack years ago that settled in the wrist. Women, please note that statistically, only 5 percent of gout sufferers are women.
