Question:
Why am I malabosorbing like I am newly postop?

I am five years & six months postop RNY. I lost apx 140 pounds and kept it off. I am now nine months pregnant with twins. I've only gained 36 pounds. Recently, I have been again having "oil slicks" a lot of oily, orange gas when I have a bowel movement, but also when I pass gas. I remember that from my first year or surgery, but not much since then unless I eat something like crab with melted butter. I have not increased my fats. It seems like my body is back like it was right after surgery where I am malabsorbing a lot of fat. I even lost six pounds. It's embarrasing & I have not spoken to my OB about this. Anyone have any idea what is going on?    — LisaDoesEarth (posted on October 25, 2007)

If this had not been going on a while I would say that your body was preparing for delivery. This is a terrible time for poor absorbtion. I would call my surgeon and my OB if I were you. Christine

hello Lisa first of all I want to say congrats on the twins You and your other half must be really excited. You didn't really say how far along you are in your post. The only reason why I said something like that is because I was wondering how much long you have to go. Another thing is that I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about for "oil slicks" cause I have not yet gone through the surgery but I am going to school for medical assisting and I would suggest that you talk to your surgean if still possible and most deffiantely your OB cause I know that one baby is a lot of strain on somebodys body and you have two! so if you're really worried about this then talk to them immediately they probably know of something that can help you for one and for two you have to make sure that you and your babies are okay and you're getting enough nutrients for the THREE of you. I hope this helps and let me know how things wents Good-Luck Angie
